Personally, I am not sure about the MX-5 Tranny, mine is great so far, I am not sure it is going to stand up to the high RPM's and more HP the RENESIS has over the 2Lt MX-5....time will tell.

Go back to my first post, the list is updated and Yes the Starter has changed. I have to stress here the Part Numbers have Changed, the changes to the starter could be very minor (an electrical clip or wire) that could be all.

One time (when I worked there) I could Physically compare the two).
Many of these "new" changes may supersede from the old in time, I don't have SS access, at this stage I doubt many if any will as these parts are Model N3R1 (S2) specific parts.
Great, thanks, didn't even bother to check your latest edit!

there were posted pics/diagrams of the new tranny way back showing the improved construction. the stiffer "shell" goes a long way in making it more durable

Yah, but even though the MX-5 and '09 RX-8 now share the same basic gearbox, doesn't the RX-8 tranny have specific improvements to help it cope with the power of the RENESIS, like larger/more robust gears compared to the MX-5 version?

Nice job ash, Im pulling my intake off in 700 miles so ill get a picture of what lies benith to combine with the schmatics you have posted. I have a question you might now or might be able to find out. I have the nav system in my 04, im pretty sure its a self contained system that can be removed. Im looking at the dash of the 09 and it seems some what different yet the same, will it fit in the 09????? The new nav is part of the radio. I am hoping to figure out if im going to need to mod anything and if the old top section direct fits?? Im hoping to have all my parameters on display plus the nav was kinda cool and its in the line of site withought clutter.

You do know the 09's don't have the POP sat nav, but is in dash...check this Mazda USA link with pic. "Click on Interior Images"
http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/disp...ehicleCode=RX8

In Australia they have just introduced factory Sat Nav and looks the same set up as the US pic, here if you have the in dash Sat Nav you don't get the 6 Stacker CD player, just the single use one, you still get the "higher" amp system with 9 speakers.

I take it you are asking if you can retro fit a pop up 04 sat nav in an 09?..

I will check out the part numbers for you and report back.
Somehow I think you may have issues with different wiring looms etc.

OK, you have problems.

The 09 Top Console where the 04 Pop Up Sat Nav would go is different, the
display screen is larger and the wiring loom is different.

Can't tell you much more as Parts Books don't supply dimensions, but I think you are in for a nightmare to try and change it over, if that is your intention.

But you never know, you would have to give it a go.

Ash

Gotta just pull it and see if they match. If they do get it working on the bench is the next step, man I hate electronics. There so nice when it works but if it dosnt it becomes a pain in the!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grabbing keyboard and spinning around head

As an interest for those who believe Mazda have "Cheapened" the Series II RX-8..

Subject: Metering Oil Pumps.

Series I ...N3H1-14-600C $1298.27 AUD LIST ( $1095.70 US)

Series II...N3R1-14-600 $761.50 AUD LIST ( US Price Not Listed On TM's Site)
Series II.. N3R2-14-600 $843.30 AUD LIST ( US Price Not Listed On TM's Site)

That is $306.53 AUD more combined for the TWO (2) Electric Metering Oil Pumps used on the Series II 09~ RX-8's.

Important Info for Series II Owners..

Today I experienced the first oil and filter change on my Series II RX-8, it took me longer than expected but I got there.

We are having a 45.7 Degree Celsius day or 114 F!!, it's bloody hot, we have at least another week to go!.

You can drain the oil without removing the Silver Sump Guard as there is a hole there to do it through, however you must remove the S Guard ( 7 Bolts) to replace the oil filter.

NOTE: IT IS TEMPTING TO LEAVE THE SUMP GUARD OFF, BUT DON'T, THE ENGINES ACTUAL OIL SUMP PAN IS MADE OF LIGHT STEEL AND WOULD NOT STAND UP TO ANY HITS/ROCKS.

Yes, ain't it!...3.04am up doing this!, you get tired of Air conditioners..

Last year we broke the all time Australian record, 17 days above 36 degrees, mostly in the 40s!..

Talk is we will beat that at the moment, advance forecast NO change by the weather guys!, hell its hot even how, it's like the world is burning.

So we fart and you guys get it a few days later,

What about the Australian Open Tennis!, finally closes the roof, those guys are insane playing tennis on a court that is 65c...thats 149 F!!!! That IS PLAYING IN AN OVEN, YOU COULD BAKE A LOAF OF BREAD!

Funny you should say that OD, I changed my oil for the first time yesterday, it had done about 1250 miles (2650km), was not happy with the crap oil from the factory, did a filter change also...just turned out to be the hottest day here in 70 years!...I was really surprised how dirty the oil was..it was black!..and thin like water!, put it between your fingers and there is NO viscosity at all.

There is no way I am putting any 5w30 in this car in this heat, so in goes 15W40.

I did not go out (apart from an engine warm up to change oil) yesterday OD, I am this morning..engines would get HOT!..any suggestions?

I had to drive home in the start of peak hour traffic yesterday and it was interesting to say the least. Amb temp showed 47 degrees. I stayed out of boost as much as possible but the air con started blowing warm air unless the car was moving and even then it struggled. I wish I had gauges to see how the car was doing.

careful with temps--it is known as yall probably know sustained temps of 225F or hotter leads to cracks around the lead sparkplug. when that happens--it is only a matter of time before compression go's. its not immediate but you will not get 75K out of her.
If you have humidity in the air then a secondary radiator has worked for some of us.
Search the Pettit thread etc--help with specifics if I can. Its an easy setup and made a profound difference in our cars. I dont know enough about the airflow in the 09's yet.

Yeah I already have some compression issues and have read all about the cracking. Unfortunately yesterday saw a massive 10% humidity, so not much help
