Mechanical Changes On RX-8 Series I to II
It appears the "spec deck"/order guide for the 2009 RX-8 was released in March 2008 here in the US.
So, yes, I was thinking the spec deck/order sheets for the 2010 RX-8 should be showing up in March or April of this year, based on Mazda patterns from previous years.
Of course, it varies greatly with other manufacturers and models.
Honda and Subaru, for example, don't release the next model year until late in the calendar year. So in their case, many of their 2010 models won't be showing up until this October.
But with this crap economy, I wouldn't be surprised if Mazda waited a few extras months before introducing the 2010 RX-8.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
There is no change in the Air Filter (Element) or box, so if you want a parts diagram I will post.
BTW: More than likely (going on past Mazda experience) the 2010 RX-8 will just have exterior Color changes of one or two, my tip is you will see the new "Liquid Silver' look and maybe the new Yellow/Gold from the new face-lift MX-5/Miata.

Good News OD!
Did the S2 Pump fit straight in with No Modifications to the fuel line connections and or wiring connectors?
If not this is good to hear as S1 owners should now only order the S2 Fuel Pump.
It should supersede to the S2 Part Assembly once they sell existing stocks, just make sure you order the new S2 one...
The Australian EPC shows the Genuine Mazda Part # as N3R1-13-35Z.
A US w.Trademotion.com Search says "No Parts Found"?..
The US Part # could be different, or TM don't yet stock it or list in their system?
Can you confirm the Part # OD, Please?
Thanks ASH.
Yeah, I'm not expecting any changes or additions other than maybe colors or trim.
I'm holding out for a nice dark blue or maybe the return of Copper Red. If not, then a 2010 in white it is.

the part number is the same as you listed.
the swap does involve a couple of mods--the fuel tank sender receptical is different and the venturi line hook up will have to be adapted ( just make it a hose and clamp connection) then the unit has to be mounted where the forward arrow is at the 3 o clock position. That is needed because the fuel hook up is at a certain angle--it does not matter that the pump is rotated this little bit.
it is a much better assembly--hands down.
i have a thread in the tech section with pics

Increased AMP Hour Capacity Battery
Series 1 RX-8's originally had a 50 AMP HOUR Battery In most Markets, later a Heavier Duty 75 Amp Hour Battery was used. (Also with a Heavier Duty Starter Motor)
ALL Series II RX-8's now have an 80 AMP Hour Battery...even more juice!

Any info on What's different about the springs? I know the shocks are Bilstein now. Are they a different rate or diameter? Could AutoX folks use these parts on 04-08 cars and still be in Bstock? Or is that cheating?
My personal opinion..
Most of these (if not all) in the rear end suspension are due to the known "geometrical" alignment/improvement advertised for the Serries II.
I can't tell you honestly yet if they will be interchangeable with S1, I would not waste my time or money changing parts, as we are only talking very minor differences.
When Mazda changes the front part of the Part Number (F189) which they have done, almost always means the parts are unique to that model, but sometimes it will supersede back wards for Series 1 RX-8's..it is too early to tell. Mazda do this usually a few years later.
I hope this helps.
New Rear Suspension Control Links (Rods) Upper/Lower and Trailing have Lengthened.
New Rear Stabilizer Bar.
New Rear Shocks And Springs.(would be because of a change in Damper rates)
New Rear Parking Brake Cables (because of the rear end modifications).
I HAVE LOOKED CLOSELY AT ALL THE CHANGES MAZDA HAVE DONE TO THE SERIES II AND IMO
NONE OF THEM ARE OR CAN BE A EASY RETRO FIT TO SERIES I WITHOUT A MAJOR HEADACHE.
THE ONLY KNOWN ONE SO FAR, THE Fuel Pump (With Modifications)...thanks to OD.

Interesting about the more powerful battery in the Series II...
Maybe the new/updated starter in the Series II really is a totally new, improved unit compared to the latest Series I starter and can take advantage of the more powerful battery?

So Yes, this is why we see the change in Alternator/Starter.
The changes to the Alternator Assembly would be to do with the internal voltage regulator and the increased 5 AMP Battery Output Capacity.
Mazda are very "****" when it comes to Electronics, the slightest changes in anything to do with "capacities" you see them changing/upgrading their diodes, resistors to suit.
The starter looks the same in Size, again it is the internals where there are Very Slight alterations because of the Batteries increased 5 Amp output.
As we know the more Manufacturers Add to cars to comply with Certification/Safety or Consumer Desire/Want requires them to upgrade electronics to handle the increased load/demand from the Battery/Alternator,
like Heated Seats, Mirrors and All the Extra Accessories we demand to have in our new cars.

I cant see why Series I Bilsteins could not be installed into Series I RX-8's and still comply with your AutoX scrutineering?, I guess someone would have to try it on.
You are talking a considerable cost to renew all 4 shocks with Bilsteins.
The changes are very minor, but sorry, I cant confirm exactly what and or the spring rating.
I am sure if you renewed them in a Series I you would notice No or little change to suspension performance..
If you want to stiffen/alter your rear suspension or shock/springs use after market/non genuine parts.

I don't know about puddle lights for US-spec Series II. I think for Series I, other export markets got them, but not the US. So I wouldn't be surprised if that's also the case for the Series II.
Unfortunately, there is only 1 Mazda dealer within 80 miles of me, and they currently have NO RX-8s in inventory, Series II or otherwise, so I can't take a close look in person...

Guess I"ll have to go look at that group buy for one.
Gee, for once Australia has something that the US don't get in their RX-8's...
BTW, We don't get as standard, Auto Headlights ON/OFF, Auto Dim Rear Vision Mirror, Rain Sensing Wipers, TPMS (Tire/Tyre Pressure Monitoring System).....
