Really? The stock brakes are that good? Also what exactly do you mean by lock up sooner... As in completely stop rolling sooner because I thought only the rear wheels can "lock"
Also I'm asking all these questions cus I know one mod will affect all the other parts so I want to have a general list of thinks first that might work well together, buy, modify, then tune.

 

Larger brakes in the front can change the balance of the braking system and lead to them locking up sooner if they are not properly biased to account for the changes. The stock brakes are excellent. Pair them with some good tires and try things out before you spend a ton of dollars on a BBK. Upgrades one at a time help you learn a little bit at a time about your car without its attitude changing drastically.

 

Yes, really, the stock brakes are that good. By lock up, I mean get into ABS. The amount of braking force that you can apply to a moving car is directly related to the car's traction.

Image that you have massive 14" brakes with shitty 185 mm section snow tires. Those huge brakes will do you no good since you can't get the stopping power to the pavement. The stock brakes are good enough to get my 265/35R18 Kumho XS extreme summer tires into ABS on a track, at full temp. I am even on stock pads. The only modification to the brake system on my car is Super Blue racing brake fluid.

The only brake modification I think is worth while are high performance pads.

 

Everything's making sense to me now. (: I wasn't planning to get larger brake rotors and calipers any time soon anyways, so I guess I'll decide after I got everything else modified.
Finally, whats the best tire size for stock wheels so I can go buy some decent used ones one?
Also I've got currently got Hankook ventus evo tires with about 3/16 to 2/16 thread left. Will I be able to last at least 2 more months with this?

 

I wouldn't suggest used tires.....ever. There are just too many unknowns about tires that I almost always buy new. Stock tire size is 225/45R18. 245/40R18 will fit on the stock 8" wide wheel as well.

Asking how long tires last is simlar to asking people how many beers they like to drink in a night. All depends on application. How many miles do you expect to do in the next 2 months? What kind of driving will you do? What is the weather going to be like in the next 2 months?

I see you are in Georgia, so I am guessing you won't have to deal with snow? Rain traction will be your biggest cocern with that little of tread left.

 

In Georgia with a normal amount of mileage you should be okay but take it easy.

I personally don't have a bbk, but I figure I can share my opinion since I was able to get into ABS with my stock brakes on a track with my 265/35 Kumho XS at temp. I have zero power mods though, so I was only at 95 mph on the front straight before brake point. A Porsche 911 C2 that was in my group was at 108 mph. I only see a bbk important on a FI RX8, unless you are running R comps.

Have you ever had your 8 on a track? What are your thoughts of the stock brakes? My argument is still valid......tire traction is still the weaker link in my setup, so unless you are running 285's, R compounds, or forced injection......bet is that the stock brake system isn't your weakest link.

 

I'm just saying you don't have the necessary info to push a side like you are doing.

 

I recommend him to buy some quality pads, if that isn't doing the job BBK it.
I had BBK on my 7, it was sweet, but then again it had double the power.
I'll eventually go with a BBK on my 8, just haven't yet.

LOL. I like the input I'm seeing. I realized that I probably will need a bbk cus the traction is not that great on the mountains, but most likely after I finish all my other mods including FI, if I decide I want to go that route later.
So anybody know any good pads for the 8 here?

 

Your statement here is contradicting. Did you mean to say that "I probably WON'T need a bbk...."?

I have nothing against bbk's.....but only if they add value. If you go FI, great, but don't assume a bbk is necessary. Only consider a bbk when you require more braking force. Before you need more braking force, you need traction.

 

i am looking at 18x9 with +35 mill offset with 265 tires all around will it fit? also i want to drop it 2 in all around will it fit with rolled fenders

The tires might look a bit weird on that wide of a wheel. I would bump it to at least a 245/40 if you can. I have a setup close to that with a little bit if fender roll.

 

totally agree, i have a line on new potenza re-11's for ~500 bucks, just trying to work out the details.

so with 225's a light fender roll? im on a 2 inch spring drop.

I just really dont want to relocate tabs.
