He's "commenting" on your desire to get 19's as they will require a tire with a shorter sidewall to make sure the same overall wheel-tire diameter is maintained which will result in less "cushion" between your *** and the crappy roads you're driving on.

 

what does ride height have to do with shitty roads? It's not like there's going to be 4" tall chunks of concrete sticking up everwhere.

Ohio has shitty roads too, especially in cincinnati where new pot holes pop up by the hour in the colder months. I've never scraped frame or anything just driving.

 

I just don't want to mess anything up haha my mom drove my s13 and turned out of a parking lot and cracked the whole bumper. And thanks for clarifying that up about the sidewall!

not lowered = fender to wheel gap.

there is nothing you can do to get rid of it, but lower it.

grow a set and lower the car. Just S-techs will give you a better look and not put you too low that you have anything to worry about. Don't let mommy drive the car. That easy.

RX-8's already look like **** at stock height on stock wheels (unless you're into that whole "stock" thing I guess) so when you throw a set of large aftermarket wheels on the car all you have is a shitty-looking car with nice wheels (although, you may have shitty taste in wheels so that might be me walking out on a limb here) which actually just makes the car look worse than stock because it shows a half-assed attempt to make it look good.

Don't get me wrong, I love my RX-8, but I do find them really ugly in stock form.

Right now I have the stock wheels just wondering if I can get some new wheels with out having to do major rolling/fender lining work. I feel like the only issue with the new wheels would be the offset but I'm awful at figuring out what I would need so Thought I'd see what the experts thought.
You are gonna have major problems if you don't use tires.

So what would you recommend as a tire setup? or what would be a better offset to get the 8.5's in the front and the 9.5's in the back.

 

Bit of help needed making these fit.

18x9 et 6 fronts
18x10 et -6 rears

Pics below show the rears trial fitted with some 255/35's that came on them and 235/40 that came on the fronts.
Hoping camber and dropping the coilovers way down will aid things but they can only do so much. Getting the arches/fenders rolled too but i want tires sorted first so i can see how much of a roll is needed.
Got some spare 235/40's and 225/40's already if they'd help me out?

 

Why do you want to go staggered? Just go 18x9 +30 to +40 with a 245/40/18 all the way around and call it a day. You'll likely need a fender roll, the closer you get to +30

I've seen plenty of 8's with similar fitments just haven't got their tire specs or what work they've done to fit them.

I have yet to see anyone run negative offsets on an 8, let alone that close to 0.

have fun ruining your fenders and suspension geometry. Don't forget to run some super stretched 225's on it to complete the look.

I may be an idiot, but i'm not the one trying to tuck 3" inches of poke under a wheel well. Just some quick math using estimates from your specs and the pictures, you'll have to run roughly -6º of negative camber in the rear to get the edge of the tire to sit flush with the wheel lip. With a huge pull you might be able to run a little less negative camber. To do this you'll need to be slammed on the ground and will most likely need adjustable camber and toe arms to pull it off. You'd be running on 1/3 of the tire's contact patch. Don't forget that you'll have to get rid of the fender liners, and will have to grind away the bumper tabs and any ridges that give structure to the wheel wells.

Remember, this is all based on quick estimates, but you're looking at a lot of work to do what most people would say is stupid, including myself.

tl;dr You'll need to be as low as possible, need further camber and toe adjustment than what stock will give you so you can run ridiculous negative camber, and you'll need a huge pull and all that will get you is "maybe able to have a slight bit of the sidewall tucking. You'll have to do a lot of cutting and grinding in the wheel wells as well.

 

-6 offset.... that wont fit (in any safe way) without cutting away the fender to make wider fenders.

I run 18x10 at +28 and I had rubbing issues..... good luck

 

18x10 -6 in the rear shouldnt be that ridiculous. you will need a big pull or a flare if you like that look. imo i'd start with the 225s until you see how much room you have. camber arms you'll need like -4 or 5 yadda yadda. when i had my 18x10+15 setup on 245's i always thought that 0 would have been doable with 225's and bigger ***** but then i realized that i would also destroy the car in the process. pretty much what fuz said actually lol good luck

Hey guys,

Was looking at getting some wheels now that I have my car lowered. These were the ones I was looking at:

STERN ST-11 DE ELEGANCE 18x8.50 5x114.3 +35 GLOSS BLACK

However, they said that they can't find the +35 offset anywhere, but that they do have the same size with +20 offset.

I'm running Tein S-Tech springs with Tokico shocks. With the S-Tech's I'm lowered 1.3 in the front and 0.7 in the back. Right now I have the stock GT wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.

My question is, will it fit running the +20 offset instead of the +35? If more information is needed, let me know and I'll do my best to provide it. Thanks!
