Thanks for the tip, but the tire is not making contact with the metal, just the plastic...and yea I knew there was metal behind there.

Im Lowered on eibach pro kit. With Enkei rpf1's 18x9.5 +38 offset. No issues. But if i Add a 10 or 15 mm spacer Im guessing ill need to do some fender rolling? or will there be bigger issues?

 

No tires = an issue

 

Use this and I will help you
1. Is the car an rx8? If no, go somewhere else.
2. Is the car stock height? If no, then explain.
3. Have the fenders been modified in any way? If no, are you willing to modify the fenders?
4. Please state wheel width, offset, and diameter.
5. Please state the proposed tire width and profile.
6. Is the hub size 67.1mm or larger?
7. Is the bolt pattern 5x114.3 aka 5x4.5"?

I please ask that other people not help if this isn't at least given a decent attempt.

 

I'm not sure you understand what I'm trying to explain. Obviously it's not contacting the metal because the plastic liner separates it from the tire The plastic won't move any further back because metal is behind it. This means the tire is going to over time wear the plastic down in that area to nothing.

Worn down plastic = sheet metal edges exposed, sheet metal edges rubbing on tire = sliced tire.

The plastic will be worn down in time to expose the metal. Rubbing on a flat metal surface is one thing, both front tires rubbed through my fender liner on a flat piece of body metal and I don't care. However, rubbing on sheet metal edges is a whole other matter.

 

My Bad. Tires are 245/40/18

 

I had to roll the fenders and trim the bumper tab just a little bit when I had 10mm spacers (same wheel specs). With 15mm spacers, the tab will have to be pretty much removed. I need to do that soon actually. It's making a nasty rubbing noise at the moment.

 

lol I understand what your saying, but I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Yes, i know the plastic wont move any further back because there is metal behind it. By the way I forgot to mention that I noticed 2 days ago that the plastic already split open in that small little area behind the tire....but as I said before.....the tire IS NOT making contact with the metal when I turn. Still rubs on the plastic, especially now since it split open, but Im hoping this will wear out even more to the point where I will not here the rubbing noise everytime I turn the steering wheel to the left.

I'll try to post a pic soon so you can see what I'm talking about. Funny thing with me is that this is only happening on the drivers side, there is no rubbing at all in this area on the passenger side which is weird.

18x9.5 r +45 Would that work with stock size tires in the front and any ideas for rear size?

I would suggest 235/45/18 for the front and 265/40/18 for the rears. I' pretty sure the stock 225 tires will have a bit of a stretched look on those 18x8.5s since stock wheels are 18x8.....so if your going with a wheel that's half an inch wider why not go a size bigger

 

I'm gonna suggest you don't suggest anymore. I'm not so sure you understand tires.
245/40 in front and 275/35 in the rear. You could run the rear setup all around if you wanted and not have to roll fenders. It would look ok but, like always, will look better lowered. Especially if you have the body kit in your avatar.

I'm sorry but you keep picking the wrong tires, and then suggest to others to do the same. I've been dropping hints that you picked the wrong tires for yourself a while now.

If i picked the wrong size tires....then how come I'am not having any issues with my setup ? You told me to run negative camber in the rear with the 275/35s i had on before, but I decided to try out 275/30s which infact solved my rubbing issue in the rear. When i asked you for your opinion as to wheter or not you thought 275/30s would do the trick, you completely disregarded my question and stated that "i do what you say first before we talk tire sizes".

I ended up solving the issue on my own with the CORRECT tire size, not with your advice. Don't get me wrong I think its cool that you commit alot of time to this thread, but you almost make it sound like ONLY you have the correct answer to every wheel question. If you did, you would've tried to pursuade me to try out 275/30s first, instead of telling me that i would prob need some negative camber in the rear......

 

Not having issues? You are rubbing through the fender liners up front. You are almost certainly gonna have a problem there. If you don't, you are on a very fine line so refrain from farting while you drive. Never lower your car or you will be F**KED........or hit a bump while you're turning for that matter.

In the rear, you say you have a problem and then refuse to show us what work was done. I'm not sure if you realize this, but I'm really far away from you and dealing with something that can/can not work due to a millimeter. Obviously shorter tires are gonna help. Part of the problem was you picked tires that are huge, Ross told you that pretty early on. I still don't know what work was done to your fenders and your prior post sounds like you don't know either.

 

Yes, not having issues...as in I'm not having any serious problems. I mentioned before that ONLY the driver side tire slightly rubs on the fender liner when I turn the steering wheel to the left. Once again...ONLY on the driver side for some reason. Perhaps the fender liner on this side protrudes more than that of the passenger side, but like I said I do not consider this to be a serious problem....

Also, I'm not a moron. I would never think about lowering my car with 20s on, It would obviously create problems. Second, hmmmm lets see....your in Houston, Texas.....Yeaaaaa I'm pretty sure I'm aware of the fact that you are FAR away from me. Thanks for pointing that out lol

As I mentioned earlier on, the rear fenders were rolled. What I also meant to say was that the shop apparently had removed the rear liners (the one that goes attached to the rear bumper) because the tire was supposedly slightly making contact with it (when I had on the 35s). So I DO KNOW what work was done, and I did pretty much mention it already even though I admit I could've been a bit clearer. I'm not "refusing" to show you guys the work that has been done...as I told Vlaze I will try to get pics up soon of the driver side liner when I get the chance.

As far as the tire sizes go, I'll be honest with you the truth is I got a sick deal on the 245/35s and 275/35s so I figured it was worth a shot to try them on....although I was in fact anticipating for their to be a problem. I was originally planning on getting a 30 profile all around, but decided to keep the 245/35s up front, save some money, and get the 275/30s for the rear. I have hit a few bumps so far at highway speeds and have checked my car daily after each drive. There has been NO rubbing at all when going over bumps and the fender liner on the driver side still looks the same as in the description I mentioned before....it has not gotten any worse. I will post pics when I get the chance to show you guys what I'm talking about.

CVale the problem with the front is when you turn AND the suspension compresses. You can lower a car with 20s no problem as long as the tires aren't huge like yours. I mentioned distance because that complicates things a million fold. Try talking an old person through modifying an excel spreadsheet over the phone. That **** is frustrating.

They are 17x8.5+ 30 with 275/35/17's on them. I'm dropped on Coilovers so height is adjustable.

Will they fit?
