What Broke, Busted, Leaked or Worn out on your RX-8?
2005 Base 6 spd
RH engine mount
everything else that broke or wore out was racing related (several transmissions, plastic body parts, rear camber/toe cam bolts, etc) or was replaced for better safe than sorry racing maintenance (fuel pump, ignition coils/wires, O2 sensor, clutch, etc.)

forgot to mention I wore a hole through the carpet where the heel of my throttle foot rests, they won't allow us to have a floor mat in place while racing and there is no heel pad on the carpet itself, I suppose they assume everyone will use the factory floor mat
Like the others, I'll leave out things that were modified or removed/replaced due to unusually harsh treatment.
164,000 miles - May 2003 build (in service since October, 2003):
Both visors (several times)
Both visor retaining clips
Ashtray
lower control arms (adjusters were seized)
undertray (tearing in normal use)
exhaust shrouds (discoloration)
tail lights (twice - condensation TSB)
original starter motor (once it dropped under 150 RPM, I gave up on it)
rear endlinks (failed from rust, not racing stresses)
2 exhaust hangars
motor mounts
A/C amplifier
glove box dampener
original fuel pump
heater core clogged (still haven't replaced it because of sheer difficulty involved)
power steering bits
SSV position sensor
ECT sensor
That is all I can think of at the moment.
They don't "let" us keep the floor mats in NASA, SCCA or PASA here - if they are loose. If you attach them to the factory carpet, they are legal.
I built a metal mesh heel pad for mine. Takes all the stress and is impervious to damage. Keeps your heel in place, too.

By my count, there are 3 lower control arms that have broken (not counting MM's adjusters). Thats a safety problem. Fortunately, mine broke coming out of my driveway and the only thing hurt was my money supply.
2004 GT 50000km / 31000 (s)miles (6000km / 3750 miles Turbocharged)
- Fuel Pump (on it's way out potentially from extra demands for turbo)
- Passenger Tailight (condensation)
- Driverside Airbag wire harness x 2
- Air Pump (not replaced)
- Oil injectors (most likely from mixed up Jet air and OMP breather hoses)
- Alternator (Crapped out on my way home from work last night)

car was built in July of 2003. Currently has 126,000 miles on it, lived it's whole life in south Texas. Saw all highway mileage for the first 74,000 miles of it's life driving me 80-100 miles a day.
Items replaced:
A lot of the parts also replaced are normal wear and tear, some are just from road hazards and extreme operating temps. Currently my transmission is going out and I need to replace my power steering rack (new issues that are intermittent). I have replaced a lot but the car has only left me stranded twice (when gas tank failed and alternator went crazy) in all these years. Some of the issues could have been avoided, like the tail lights, alternator overcharge, etc.
Items replaced:
- Both visors (twice)
- 3 Batteries (two killed by alternator before it was figured out)
- Both tail lights (drivers side twice) Gasket issue not a light issue, fixed with RTV
- ABS Module (fried by overcharging alternator)
- Alternator (overcharged fried many things)
- Starter (killed by alternator)
- Drivers side window switch (killed by alternator or hell of a coincidence)
- Head unit
- Shift Boot
- Seats (drivers side worn thru the rest were ok)
- Air Pump (not replaced)
- Cat Converter (replaced by dealer, then sold for midpipe)
- Center AC vents (side to side switch broke)
- Ash tray (spring popped out on lid)
- Drivers side HID ballast (took light apart and replaced ballast)
- Fogs lights (pitted and cracked from years of highway driving)
- radiator (WP belt broke caused to overheat and crack nipple at over 100,000 miles)
- water pump pulley (bolts sheared off
) - dome light (killed by alternator or hell of a coincidence)
- Rear sway bar end links (boots were cracked)
- center console lid (needs to be replaced again)
- Gas tank (saddle pump problem, replaced whole tank)
- Temp control **** (cracked)
- Fan control **** (cracked)
- Door latch (wore out, spring broke, locked me in)
- EPS wiring harness
- oil injectors (clogged)
- OMP lines (brittle and broke)

There are still many units out there that are not part of the recall group that have voids in the squeeze casting.
When I cut mine out of the frame, there were bubbles.
50 units that concerned them, meaning they felt that, statistically, those castings were likely to cause permanent catastrophic injury and/or death.

Being a poster on a wall isn't my goal in life

Thanks anyway, i searched but to no avail
