I do have the short shifter for the s2 trans

 

a NA s1 car with a s2 tranny and oe final gear (4.44) is going to be sloooow

 

maybe, but I couldnt pass up the price with such low miles and I needed a new one

 

didnt realize that you where going to the s2 tranny when i posted about the light flywheel.
that combo may make it a little harder to start off? You will like the better gas mileage while cruising--i am only at 3.2 K rpms at 65-68 mph on oem size tires. It is a much better trans. If you could get the 4:77 diff at a good price--I would do it.

 

It shouldn't be much harder to take off, unless you're a monkey

thats part of the reason I jumped on it when I had the chance...just an overall transmission. I am not a racer, just a SERIOUS ENTHUSIST

most of my daily driving is crusing in the mid 70's so we will see how that fairs on gas milage (anything I can do to "sell" this to the wife the better off I am in the long run

no monkey here but way over my head but way out of my price range and the goal is to go FI at some point just not this year....

if you plan on upgrading to fi in the near future then this trans was a very wise move

 

well s2 is installed, that went extremely easy!

now I really need something to install, this idle time is not supporting the pocketbook...ugh

not sure I understand...we just mounted it up to the PPF like the old one?

we removed the motor from the top without the transmission.

i always remove my ppf when I take the engine out---am I doing to many steps? The ppf has to be unbolted to slide the trans out???

 

nope... Just need to drop the engine/trans as a unit to get to the top bolts on the bell housing. support the assembly with a jack on the transmission and the engine hoist already connected to the engine. pull the engine forward a bit so the trans shaft and ess are no longer mated slowly jack the engine up while scooting it backward.

trans is supported by a jack you can put a jack stand under it and badabing badaboom. mission accomplished.

 

removing the 8 PPF bolts but leaving the 9th in the rear (cant remember its name but the one all by itself) was the key this sucess.

 

that doesnt put pressure on the trans front shaft/pilor bearing? Guess I would have to see it to understand. Its a one man job? Thats all I have and he is not as good as he used to be. Guess I am too old school and go crazy with impact wrench....

so far we have gone impact-less....well there was that 1 time but that was just so I could remind myself why I dont use them

Yes the stock one works fine unless you are racing all day long.

 

The one in my living room is missing that front bung. We will know soon enough how it bolts up but it should good for the extra capacity. I'm not sure on the baffles in the pan, they differ greatly from the stock setup so I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

Did you fix my oil drain pipe yet? That should keep you busy for a few minutes.
