Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how can you run cat-free? How you can pass emissions without a cat??? I don't get it.

Very Interesting Topic but I may have skipped the info I would like to ask so my question is the following:

I want as everybody to use premix in my RX-8. However the engine oil I use is the Mazda recommended Dexelia 5W-20. Do you think that a premix (for example Royal Purple 2-stroke oil or Idemitsu Premix) if mixed with Dexelia 5W-20 will cause any damage to my engine? I guess that premix with fuel will be mixed with Dexelia 5W-20 inside the motor.

To rephrase my question:

If an RX-8 owner want to use a premix , this premix should be compatible with Engine oil somehow?

Sorry for the dump question !

No, you don't need to worry about that.

Just read the last two pages, paying particular attention to the posts by Jax_RX8. All the info you need is there.

Actually I read it every time it's updated (pretty much daily), so thank you for trying to be humorously smug.

The current fact is that it's in stock so why f' around with other stuff and take a gamble?

Some states dont check.

and as always, you can buy the person a drink or something else (in some state) and he will give you a pass.

Hell I know places if you pay them enough money they will let you pass .... I dont do that cuz I think its just wrong to go around without a CAT. but hey, it happens.

Fair enough. I took your post to mean you wanted to know why everyone started discussing alternatives at all?

My honest answer is Idemitsu is hard to get with the exception of a few places on-line and can be pricey if you're just testing it out for yourself. People want to know if locally accessible products and other alternatives are acceptable and if there are advantages to other formulations.

the fuel pump itself suck. if you leave your pump running with very low fuel (less than 1/4 tank) a lot of time, the pump will overheat and die slowly.

so to keep it running good, always fill the tank whenever you're like 1/2 way full.

It's also a well known fact that supporting documentation is required when stating that a quarter tank of fuel is insufficient to cool your fuel pump.

As long as its not cavitating or sucking in air, its getting cooled. Where did you get the 1/4 tank info?

this is one huge thread.

So what does one sugeest to start on? I've never used premix before and my motor has 12,500 miles on it.

320:1?

4oz cup of premix for every 10 gallons of gas? what about for a full tank of 16-16 gallons?
is this okay? also how do you add this premix? just dump it in the gastank?

sorry for the n00b questions

I use 256:1 (1/2 oz per gallon of fill up). You will never be able to put 16 gallons in your tank.

hi guys

after talkin with Charles in pm's i pulled the trigger on buying premix(through mazdatrix, took about a week to get here on the east coast).

if you're on the fence about it, get it. i have tried to do everything right with the car, even going out of the way to get the non corn 93 gas at shell. immediately i noticed a difference in driving. acceleration felt a lot smoother. this could all be a placebo effect but i tried to pay close attention to before i filled up and after i filled up with premix.

i read a lot of voodoo about clogged fuel pumps and what not, however in my opinion its a small price to pay if it means my engine will run better and longer.

for those curious about pouring it in, i just dumped it right into the gas tank without a funnel or anything. just unscrewed the cap and put it in the hole and squeezed then checked the level on the quart. Charles recommended 6-8 oz so i put in about 7.

mazdatrix charged me $28.76 shipped by ups from cali to pa for 4 quarts. a side note for mazdatrix, they did not specify on the site how much they would charge for shipping, i found out when i saw the transaction on my debit card.
