Maybe this was already discussed, I'm not sure... but thinking about the premix quantity, it's pretty clear that by always adding the same amount at every fill-up, the quantity of the oil in the fuel will increase - albeit certainly slowly. Unless someone always fills up when the tank is dry
So to prevent an overly high concentration it may be a good idea to insert a fill-up with no premix once in a while - maybe every 3 months or so

Since the gauge is perfectly linear (3.5 gallons per 1/4), just read your gauge and mix your oil.
You could, I suppose, go to 50% of your typical regimen to "thin" the concentration without eliminating your protection.
But yeah, it's pretty simple mental math as to how much to add.
Is anyone else amused by the concept of inserting a fill-up into your 8's tank?

Steady state is reached after just a few tankfulls (around 4), but the final fuel:oil ratio is dependent on how much fuel is left.
Assuming a consistent fillup point, you can use the following to determine where the fuel:oil ratio will stabilize:
Final ratio = initial ratio * (fillup gallons / tanksize in gallons).
Of course, if you're using half-tank fillups, most people will be adjusting the amount of oil. But you can still use it to figure out your final ratio even if you normally fill up at the onset of the fuel light.

Why not just put in the appropriate amount of oil for the quantity of gas you are going to pump?

I ran out of gas and just managed to coast to a gas pump. The fillup took 57 liters (15.06 US gal.). I had previously assumed the tank held more fuel after the light went on than actually might have been the case (60 liter capacity, 15.85 gal).
I've run out a few times! lol.
Its always between 14.9 and 15.1 for a completely "dry" tank.
One of these days I'm gonna pull my pump again and look around in there.
BTW - my case of Idemitsu showed up today. New bottles!
