Mazmart likes premixing. That was good enough to sway me.

I was at Rotary Performance in Garland, Texas asking the guys about the pre-mix thing and they told me dont bother.

They said they could sell me the bottle to make a penny but on a daily driver it doesnt matter, the place it would matter is on a race car.

Well, my OMP is no longer "P"-ing, so premix is saving my motor.
I've always had zero oil consumption.
On my dyno session a few weeks ago, I marked the oil lines with a sharpie to show where the bubbles are in the lines. They didn't move after 34 WOT dyno runs.
YMMV.

On the other hand, since my visit to GA a few months ago I have had good injection oil consumption.

I think its my actual OMP.
Since I have a few laying around, I'll clean one up and install it.

Maybe you've been pre-mixing the pre-mix and the OMP is all gummed up?

Fortunately, I don't think that's an option.

I have never had much oil consumption and believe that may be related to the early demise of my engine. Since AZ is potentially one of the worst environments you can put an RX-8 into, think I will premix when I get it back with replacement engine.

I don't want to start another synthetic/dino discussion but my searches here and elsewhere are leading me to believe dino oil in a heavier weight is a better decision for this climate along with premix.

Premix = good.

Dino vs syn flame war = bad.

Next question.

If you get the new, updated, flash you may not need any pre-mix. I have found that since I got mine pre-mix adds no benefits. I would still do an A/B after the new engine goes in and see what you discover. My experience is strictly anecdotal, though.

Funny, but that's exactly what Idemitsu told me.

If I hadn't been premixing, I would be on my 4th motor. YMMV.

I know its Pascal's Wager (and therefore a logical fallacy), but its cheap insurance.

With the Crazy oil price today, I think I can afford an extra what, 50 cents per fillup from the Premix. 4oz, no biggie.

I just did that this morning ~~~

I was seeing fuel economy improvements, like many of us who pre-mix do, when I was doing it but since getting the updated flash I see no improvements in fuel economy and my exhaust(with no cat) now smells like a Toro snowblower in the morning when it didn't previously. I can definitely smell the oil in the exhaust when, befor, I could not. Just my own experiences and observations but MM's right in that it is good insurance if you have any doubts. With my engine right now, I don't.

What does "YMMV" mean?

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary

I'm about to install my Sohn adapter along with a different MOP. I'll see what happens.

Darn, and here I have a case of Idemitsu just waiting for Spring.

For daily driver the flash would seem to provide all the add'l oil that's necessary.

Thanks, MM. You get the new flash yet and are you going to test the theory?

How new is the new flash? My current flash is the recall flash.

There is supposed to be another one - it deals with MPG. No idea of the number. I figured nothing could help me so I have not done anything with it.

Better MPG = screwed up tuning for me.
I guess I should know what they have done, though.
I'll ring up Karl and see if he has time to flash my PCM next week.

I seem to like the U but my observations may be skewed a bit, given my self-imposed debacle with the injector harness. It idles smooth as glass and starts/idles in the cold much better than it used to. Those of us who haven't made all the major mods might be better suited for the before/after.

Better mileage with pre-mix=better apex/corner sealing and wear doesn't it?

I think the current newest flash is one revision newer than the recall flash.

if I didnt do the RB flash I would update it, but nah, dont feel like to throw another 150 down the drain. Premix 4 oz is fine for me.

MM: let me know if you find out about a 'newer' flash. I don't think mine's been touched since the recall.

I recently went in and had my flash updated. It was last updated when my engine was replaced in July '07. It's new than that. I've heard it's supposed to increase the oil injection.
