When the engines broken down, It had some carbon build up, but hard to say if its because of oil.. But everything else (inside rotor, e shaft, etc looked good). I used Mobile 1.

Now, I just switched to conventional oil just because the cost issue and didn't see much benefit... as I change 1500 miles on my FD.

But those of you who's concerned about synthetic oil injection, I know FD there is an adaptor in which you could inject 2 cycle instead. I'm going that route on my FD that I'm building and run full 100% Mobile 1

Also, people need to realize, driving habits could result more in carbon build up. And also, the RB statement about rubber seal deterioration.. who knows.. If Mazda uses cheap seals that can't even handle that, I would be VERY surprised.. As during winter time, most gas uses EtOH in which harms more than some additive in oil.. Again, I think we are looking too much into this..
No ! Not Acceptable !

You use/used Evil Synthetic ! Thou are evil ! Shall be ban from the Rotary Community !

Now give me all your rotaries, Maybe the Holy Anti-Synthetic empire might forgive your past ...

Every one time you look at MazdaManiac's avatar will negate one RX-8 using synthetic.

From what I've gathered, in order to avoid warranty hassles you would need to use an oil that meets the requirements laid out in the owner's manual. Based upon that, I thought any 5w20 oil synthetic or not should be fine, as long as it meets API-SL and ILSAC certification.

Oddly enough though, not only did the dealer tell me to absolutely not use synthetic oil, but they also said that 5w30 dino oil was ok even though it isn't mentioned in the owner's manual. To me this means they don't really know and that I should use the 5w30 Royal Purple that I was originally planning to. Came up with that as I live in Florida and will be doing some autocrossing.

I've searched and seen the endless debates on synthetic, but my question to those who have been given a hard time about using synthetic is, does Mazda care about you not following their suggested weight, or just that you used synthetic?

30 weight oil is used in the RX-8 outside of NA. So you'll be just as fine with it as the 20 weight.

In order to not have any warranty issues, when a dealer asks you what oil you are using you say "5W20 conventional". It doesn't matter what you are really using. They can not test or tell what it is and they are going off of what you tell them. That should always be the default answer to the question from a dealer. Anyone that says it's dishonest should really think about how honest dealerships are when it comes to service and what actually needs to be done. Play their game. Don't be a victim of it. I'd tell them my car ran on Yak vomit if I knew that's what they wanted to hear.

I was just browsing through the owner's manuals for the newer RX-8s ( http://www.analogstereo.com/mazda_rx8_owners_manual.htm ), and noticed that they don't even mention synthetic until the 2007. In the 2007 owner's manual, the only thing it says about synthetic is that it may worsen starting performance. Now that's something that I've never heard before.

Btw, rotarygod, thats what I figured. My only concern was if they wanted proof of maintenance. They had no problem ordering my free replacement engine with no service history at all though, so I'm not too worried there now.

I have a question....

What do you recommend for the break in period.....just a semi-synth 5w20?

I'm pretty sure that a fully conventional oil is suggested for initial break-in. My Racing Beat catalog mentions this, and they're pro-Synthetic afterwards.

This is true for all cars. Some high end models (Infiniti, etc..) have a break in schedule where the dealer starts w/ regular, then after XX miles moves to semi, then full.

Surfaces need to wear, as as the metals get used to each other. Maybe if engines were made of Samuel L.'s Unobtainium by perfect machines this wouldn't be necessary, but in the real world it is a vital step. I imagine for a rotary the apex seals, port entries, and housing surface are the biggest need-to-wear parts.

I read in Mazda japan party race that you can use
castrol edge 0w40. Is it a suitable synthetic for use with the car ?

i started with royal purple @ 5K miles. Ran great. At 15K miles, the tire dealer was rotating my tires and changed my oil without being asked. Pissed me off bigtime, because I 'd just changed it myself.
So I've been running 5w20 semi synth since, and I tell you it runs like crap compared to what it did with the RP. I'm at 20K now and I just bought some RP 5w20 and can't wait to get it back in there. I changed it at 17.5 with conventional but I'm done with it. The RP is WELL WORTH every penny.

The whole synth is bad routine really pisses me off. It's just Mazda NA looking for a scapegoat when **** happens. If my car is running better with the RP, then I'm using it.

Not to mention RP on their own website recommends their oil for rotaries.

So if they're wrong, sue them.
They aren't wrong. RP rocks.

Notice, this *Mazda does not recommend Full Synthetic oil* started like 30 years ago, when Mazda used *cheap *** seals* PLUS Full Synthetic oil was *NOT so great* back then = the result is that the Oil melt the O-rings and the engine got fucked. Ask one of our Mod about it, it happened to him.

but since *then*, Mazda changed the O ring material, and Compare our Synthetic oil now to Synthetic oil from 30 years ago just .... aint right.

This *Anti-Synthetic* thing is just stupid IMO, people have their freedom to use whatever they want, if it works for them, why are people bitching. I just dont get it.

I've been using RP for so long, damn my engine is running strong. Yikes !!!! and will continue to do so till my MSP blows up. Will see how many miles would that be.

It doesn't cause gay babies! It causes babies to be gay.

ok lol at that last statement and a question. How would something like this castor based oil go in a rotary engine http://www.penriteoil.com.au/files/T...RACECASTOR.pdf.. Its ashless, designed to be burnt and used in high "Speed" engines.

Only downside I see is the 20W rating.

Cheers

Andrew

I know I'm only one person but I've ran synthetic oil since 6,000 miles on my 05 and have only receintly switched to Idemitsu 10w-30 as my standard motor oil.

I have been running RP 5w-30 since 6,000 miles however and my last compression test was at 41,000 miles. Current milage is 43,000

Rotor #1: Test 1: 8.9, 9.3, 8.7 @ 296
Rotor #2: Test 1: 9.4, 9.1, 9.3 @ 291

I've also been premixing for about the past 10,000 miles on the vehicle.

Like I said, one car but so far I've been happy with the results!

Hi guys! I'm new to this RP stuff. I went to wallmart only to find 10W-30, Will my baby be ok if I use this oil weight? Thats all I could find there.

I have a request, Can the guys that have are using RP post how long you have been using RP and what weight?

Also, I was told my a great source who asked and was told by a greater source that synthetic oil dont cool like conventional oil and in time your engine will go, Is that true? I have 57K and I'm on my 2nd engine. I just want to do all the right things to keep my baby running happy

Thanks a million,
-Gil
