I can not get on any other bearings on either. I am stumped here. I will be dropping the turbo off so the guys at boostlabs can take a look and hopefully fix and balance it.

I rebuilt this about a month ago and it went together with ease.

small update... Got the greddy profec otw.

Dropping the center housing off at boostlabs. As long as I dont run into any kinks with the turbo then I will be very close to install.

Ordering the new couplers shortly as well. Does anyone know the exact ID size for charge pipe to TB coupler?

 

hmm Cant remember off the top of my head but if you google the GReddy turbo install instructions you should be able to find a PDF to Download and there is a complete parts list with coupler sizes listed..... Then you can go to any hose and fitting shop and they should have in stock almost any size of silicon coupler/hose imaginable at a cost per inch

 

Chris you are a pro at installing the TB coupler. I know one you put on that's so tight it don't even need clamps!!

I am considering a turbo rebuild... perhaps a 57 trim

What are the essential support modifications that need to be made to the greddy kit? I am thinking injectors and thats about it

I would want to upgrade the rad but other than that I really dont have any other concerns... missing anything?

 

Can't remember your specific mods but I would recommend (if you don't already have some of these) for an upgraded turbo:

1 Hi flow fuel pump
1 injectors
3 bhr coils
4 modded aem/ms intake


yes fuel pump and injectors are tied for 1st..... however the stock fuel pump could probably supply the upgraded injectors, just for how long is the question and at $100 bucks the walbro is a very cheap safety/reliability mod. I have a fuel pressure gauge in my arsenal of gauges and I can tell you that the stock pump at 45000kms (27000 miles) had a hard time keeping up fuel pressure on my stock injectors. Saw drops of around 5psi under high loads. Walbro sits solid at 60psi now

RMR's list is pretty good . IMO the AEM/MS intake is not that great and you could do better getting one made (fazdarx8 was offering to make them) and save money while doing it.

 

Yeah I remeber hearing that about the Walbro right after I bought it haha..... but Ray still offers them and so far I've noticed nothing about mine that gives me any doubt (holding pressure 100x's better than my stock pump); so I would like to believe that there is nothing wrong with the Walbro.

The topic was about Walbro starting to use cheaper parts in the pump but nothing was ever conclusive; as far as I read into it anyway.



@Brett; yeah I have to agree that I think you could peice together your own CAI, but you'd have to make sure its the proper ID, for alot less. Also I think the use of a 90deg silicon coupler to get through the hole on top of the crash bar has been used successfully. Either way it is on the top of my list to do something to my intake as the GReddy is sucking in some really hot air in traffic and sometimes causes my idle to stumble.

 

Mazsport used to make an upgraded intake that was way better than the AEM for the Greddy .

The issue with the AEM is that when you point it downwards to mate with the greddy pipework , you get an angle where it joins the 90 degree pipe which induces turbulence throwing off the MAF .

 

Yeah the Mazsport (minds eye) one is still on Ebay. It's tempting but I can't force myself to put money in that guys pocket. It looks great though.

I have decided I am going to take the advice here and route my intake piping and filter back into the passenger compartment.

 

Hmm...that sounds interesting, how do you plan on routing it? Isn't it going to create some noise in the passenger compartment?

That coupler was a pain in the *** to get on there, it took the three of us like an hour to get on there. Hopefully Chris' goes on easier LOL
