update: just picked up the turbo from boostlabs yesterday... need to say thanks to Kirk over at Boostlabs. He really knows what he is doing. Turbo was completely rebuilt; Honed the center housing, all new bearings (the Chinese kit I bought from ebay was trash... stay far away from that crap, fellas), new coating on center housing, sand blasted and chemical treated. It looks brand new. I will take some pics and post a comparison from my rebuild and clean to the Boostlabs rebuild and clean. There is a clear difference and I thought that I had done a good job

Is this the kit you are refering to that is trash? doesnt seem to have much that may be a issue..did your turbo have quite a bit of damage before your attempted rebuild?

Greg, I cant view the ebay site at work. I will check out on my phone when I get a chance. When I was talking with Kirk at boostlabs he was describing the chinese kits to me. One major problem with the one I purchased were the seals, they were made from the wrong kind of metal, they were bent out of shape just from rebuild.

not only are the seals wrong but the thrust plate did not have the proper form nor was it made from the correct metal either. Under extreme temperatures the metals would have caused failure.

the bearigs were also made from the same metal that the thrust plate was... you can see the bearing in the photo above

Good to hear, did you do any upgrades to the turbo?

I should have but my wallet started crying while I was talking to Kirk. the 57 trim would have been an amazing jump right now but I have budgeted this build quite well and I do not want to use more funds than I need to right now.

Care to share what he wanted for that upgrade? I believe what I paid AMR was awesome compared to what a BNR would have cost and unless it is disappointing (doubtful given their reputation) performance wise I am stoked.

lol Scott, how many gauges are you planning on running?

The coupler sourcing has begun. This is the last thing needed for the actual build itself.

I keep forgetting to take pics of the rebuilt turbo

Well..... In the dual pod I have fuel pressure and oil pressure. In the Lotek i will run oil temp, PLX AFR, and EGT.

Get some pics up!

Later down the road I think I would like to go with some nice EGT IAT and Oil temp gauges.

Yeah I am ditching my Auber oil temp gauge mounted in the head unit for a 52mm Propsport premium and I will use my Good Box for IAT, Boost, etc., etc.

But EGT is a must for FI in my opinion.

I wouldn't even bother with one of the oil gauges and get a actual sweeping boost gauge instead.

Well the Goodbox has a boost gauge as well with an overboost feature and audible warning. If I don't like that I will go with a 52mm boost gauge and ditch the oil pressure gauge.

lol, Brettus and I just spoke about this yesterday. He runs with a catch can vented to atmosphere, I just run a breather. I get a bit of residue around my Alternator every now and then, which I simply wipe off. Not sludge, just liquid oil residue. My breather is oily if I touch it.

I believe you termed it Crud and Brown Slime Ooze , but I overlooked those labels during our conversation and did not verify it. If there is any sludge, it would be contained on the inside of the breather. I haven't taken it off in a year to examine that.
