In case you wondered which side of the engine (chamber) gets the hottest. Look at the heat markings on this PP 20B from Dempsey Racing Homestead-Miami Speedway race. It was the only RX8 that did not finish the race due to water (cooling) leak failure around last (3rd rotor housing/rear housing) clearly noticed around plugs area. Also, noticed the difference in exhaust color from the front rotor housing, not sure why.

Pictures and videos from the race, click link below

all in the tune---?

Bret ---lol!

Pulse flow is the actual flow under engine conditions. The injector is not open all the time while the engine is running--right? The rapid opening and closing of the valve does influence the the max flow of the injector. A lot of so called companies, when they flow test an injector just locked the valve open when testing for max flow. To get the true flow rate the injector has to be pulsed as when the engine is running.

All modern fuel injection test rigs do it this way.
All the "big dogs" use this sort of machinery.

OK - thanks for that OD . Gunna take your post and quote it over in that other thread because I think that info is very relevant to some of the issues people have with the uncapped yellows

Time to get out. I have a for sale thread.
Taint fun anymore. Moving on to something else. I still have my R3.
Oh by the way I can beat a S.C S2000 that is similarly prepared! More low end grunt so I could get him off corners and in the taller gears!

Hey guys! So I got a great/upsetting story for you all. So I was driving my car one day recently, it was about 40degrees outside. I hit it a little bit just for fun and it slipped a bit and DSC kicked on. Then POW! The engine back fired. The rpm dropped and the car shut off. When trying to start it the engine would crank but not start. Almost as if it flooded. So I attempted to de-flood the engine. That was not working at all so I checked for spark and was getting no spark. Tested to the coils and no spark to the coils. So I tested the position sensor and it was working properly. I had a mechanic look at the car and test the PCM. When trying to flash it the PCM wouldn't take the program and kept stating that this option isn't available. He stated that this means that the PCM is faulty and needs to be replaced. I was wondering if any of you had heard of this happening before or is this just one of the abnormal situations?

yep---but I was flying and kicking ***!
I have 2 blown motors that one good motor can come out off--somebody else can do it and save a lot. See my sale thread--asking 10K for EVERYTHING---its a lot.

This engine after adding FI just doesnt like getting on a road track for long. I really dont know what you can do to make it last and still DD it a little.
The amount of boost, engine temps, lower redline doesnt seem to matter. All of them break the corner of the apex--front or rear rotor .
Still have the R3.

That suck OD. I can understand your frustration.

I got the oil return problem sorted out, still no codes and looking at 50 miles. Im going to change a few things around after the inspection. Theres a few more things ive noticed about the 09s vs 08s. It seems that they have both the nipples on the intake runners going directly to the top near the oil cap in the plastic section. Then theres another hose that goes from the lower section of the plastic oil fill watchamacallit to the maf housing so it pretty much puts vac through the entire crankcase. WTF. The only reason I can think that they changed this might be to cut down on some of the condensation, any thoughts???? Ive seen the T in on the intake nipples before but if I remember correctly they were plugged on the early models. It looked like they might have made it for easier vac testing on pre 09s since like I mentioned before they were plugged. I only have the jetair hooked to the maf, nuthing else at the moment. My idle seems a little low, its around 820 RPMs, it a loppy but holds without stalling. This is with that bleed through capped.

yea-- stock seals. Everyone tells me they are the best for how I run?

I am wondering if I blew a side seal this time because it threw up a quart of oil back thru the oil fill cap/breather.
Popped a vacuum line off a one way valve too (engine side)
I dont know if it all happened at one time or what.
I found oil everywhere after it blew and i found the lower intake vacuum line popped off the one way valve that goes to the vacuum chamber for the ssv.
I think the vacuum line popped off 1st because i heard a shutter/studder sound/sudden lost power (no cel) then ----it was done.

No compression on any face of the front rotor.

That corner piece that breaks off - just makes sense to me to use either a one piece seal or a bendy one like I have to help prevent that .

Yep, this happened to me. My car burned to the ground; in my case, the "bang' was gas accumulating in the cat that lit off, blew back through the motor and blew the boot off the UIM/LIM, blew the fuel line off the rail, and burnt my baby to the ground.

Sorry about you mishap. I'll probably would it done the same thing. As a matter of fact I just sold my Hayabusa three weeks ago cuz is not worth to lose my life do to many people texting while driving. Bike against car is no good. It really sucked seeing the owner driving away with my Busa but the pain went away a few hours later.

The bottom line is that everything is material and also you will have good stories to tell later on.

I still have my R3 Thanks for all the support guys.
galen --you crack me up dude--damn
Still trying to fix the air bag light--that system gets complicated.

No one has any real interest yet.
I do not want to part out the car unless the person buying comes here to get the part themselves.
Heck its more work to part out with the shipping and keeping up with payments etc than it is to rebuild and then sell.

I will still be here and heck who knows there may be something in the "pipeline" next year?

Anyway here is what i think happened.
I was coming down the back straight at road atlanta, playing with my friend in the S.C S2000.
4 th lap, midway through 4th gear, i heard a flutter, studder and then it caught ok,- then flutter studder again and then it was dead. This happened in maybe 1-2 seconds and I was doing about 100mph and cars all around me---get the picture?
It blew the vacuum line off a one way valve that runs from the LIM to the vacuum chamber that works the ssv.
That did it. I dont know how, or why loosing a vacuum line like that will blow an engine? But I guess it did. Once the seal let go i got a lot of blowby and that blew the oil out. So my plate is probably bad. I get NO compression on the front rotor on any face---none. It will not even blow a piece of shop towel out! Must be some real damage there---sigh.
My coolant temp was at 185F, My charge temp was at 100F, oil temps at 190F, about 7 lbs of boost --less than 8K rpm. cruising --right?
If this engine is that fragile....... then I need to stop throwing money/work and time at it.
I think it would be ok for the street and the occasional autocross/drag strip, but not on a road circuit. I dont know of ANYONE that circuit races/track days multiple times/weekends with an FI renesis and has no blown engines?
Even different apex seals--like goopys---I think is just a bandaid for the road track. Something else is going on.
Some will say the tune---but I dont believe there is any modification of a tune just for road racing that increases its reliability that is also not like a conservative DD tune?
My a/f's were fine. low 12's to low 11's rpm/load dependant.
So no real answers I have. There were no misfires etc--nothing like that.
Just posting for what it is worth to someone else.
If you decided to take a boosted renesis engine on the road track---be careful, be very careful. I hope your Mojo will be better than mine.

Man OD. I think that's similar to Greg's motors demise. One of his solenoid valves was cracked I think. Well, good news. After nights of sleeplessness mine has passed inspection. My box got sent to the wrong address and is on its way back to Australia, dam. More good news though, got married and I have a baby on the way.
