As far as putting together your own kit, even if you have the fabrication skill, the engine management know-how, and can tune, don't expect to just throw together some stuff and put down 400whp. Its not going to happen. I know for a fact that even these companies who are experts at turbocharging rotaries still go through several iterations and tweaks with their kits to get that kind of performance. R&D gets expensive, I suspect you'd spend more than $7k to do it yourself after you've tried 3 or 4 turbos, manifolds and ems solutions.
Wrong

There are members on this board who have done a custom kit and spent a lot less than $7000. It is possible like you said with the fabrication skill and there are proven EMS options out there. Why would you need to try 3 or 4 turbos and manifolds? It can be done with 1 turbo and 1 manifold.

I'm not saying you have to use 2 or 3 turbo's. You can just select one, and if chosen carefully, see some nice gains. But, I highly doubt you will fab up your own manifold, bolt up a turbo, drive to the dyno and put down 400whp and have a nice torque curve. You're going to have to do your own R&D to figure out what works and what doesn't, and that usually involves trying a few different things.

Just ask PTP or SFR how many turbo's they've tried out on there 8's. I guarantee its more than 1.

I am not PTP and said nothing about there product in my above post. I live in Austin and am very familiar with there kit but I have no afiliation with them other than know the guys at the shop. There is more than 1 member on the board that has done a custom kit. Mazda Maniac, guy in Australia and I have one on and have had it over a year. It is a GT30R mounted in the same location as the Greddy kit. It was not done by PTP but by a friend who fabricates. It has been seen here in Austin by a few of the board members. I do not post a lot about it because the guy who made it for me does not plan on on reproducing it. Just wanted to state my case that I am not PTP or employed by them. I buy parts from there every once and a while and know Jon and the owner because a good friend of mine is sponsored by PTP. I was just stating to the other post that a custom kit is possible for less that $7000 and I have only used 1 turbo and manifold. I will say the fabricaion of the one manifold to fit the GT30R down below was very difficult and time consuming.

You are correct on the 400hp it is not a task that can be done very easily and keeping it reliable. All I wanted out of my setup was quick daily driver around the 300 hp mark. To get mine to 400 would require more work and probably a different turbo. I am interested in the progress of Scotts kit because he got as much hp as I did with less boost, I guess thats why he is the expert and it is just an expensive hobby for me.

What truth? The truth that you're an *******?

I have no interest in any turbo kit or either of the threads really, just giving an unbias observation.

I thought HKS made the T4 with "HKS specific" upgrades over a GT. Is this true??

Trip to Venezuela in a FedEx box...

Hey Scott.... I will ship you in a FedEx box with your turbo kit to Venezuela. Hope you can fit in the large box for december.

Like we talked on the phone.

A note to all members, just want to give some credit to Scott who has been inconditional when I have had issues with my car. He has been responsive and prompt, very proactive, that is why i buy his products with my eyes closed.

The wideband is amazing, so looking forward to buying his turbo kit soon.

this seems to be one kit that's going to be first to market here in a month or so?

when scott posted those original dyno's they looked badass, 300 to the wheels and I'd be happy as a clam, any more is icing on the cake.

even after posting those original dyno's he said a few things about "improvements" being made to THOSE, hell if he's improving on something thats already putting 325 to the wheels and doubling our available torque, HOLY *****.

I can just imagine the grin on my face if/when this thing comes out and maybe finds its way under my hood, the feeling of instantly having at least 120 more horses under my hood.

Scott's moved into his new location and appears to be in full swing working on cars. Apparently he's got a BUNCH of business to catch up on, so who knows where his turbo kits stands. However, I now suspect that he's looking at something a little bigger than the GT35R, but I don't have any experience with big turbos to speculate what that might be. Nevertheless, I bet that he'll be producing some really big numbers very soon!

That wouldn't be a good thing. The GT35R is plenty big for this engine/setup. It is good for up to 400 whp (as the PTP has shown) with supporting mods. Already boost lag until like 4000 rpm. Much bigger, and you will get too much lag.

Will anything bigger even fit down where scott ha put the turbo? I was told that the turbo used to make the first numbers was a tight fit. But then again im not totally sure what turbo he used to anyway.

I agree - I have a fistfull of cash waiting if you bring something out that puts 300 to the wheels (anything more is icing) and is reliable and safe.
