Update?

I know,I know it's been awhile. I have been driving the kit back and forth for a several months now, making minor revisions and tweaks along the way. It truly is a daily driver at this point and as soon as I get back to the dyno I will post some #'s. I have done the ignition upgrade and raised the horspower bar higher but still not high enough. The engine has ~30k, no issues and the compression is still good! The car is on an old flash and starter for that matter so I will take it to the dealer for the lastest and greatest and then just abit more driving. Those of you who know me are aware I like to do most of the work inhouse and let the consumer install a product and not deal with the fabrication or base map building, etc. Do some work, get your hands dirty and then go have fun! Thanks for your patience and continued interest in Mazsport and our products,Scott

So long as the kit comes with good instructions (preferably with pictures....lots of them....but just some is cool too) then im all for doing my own install. Looking forward to the numbers.

Scott,

I don't believe this has been asked yet but with this current rig are you planning for CARB certification?

Also, as it seems that we're entering the age of reflashed PCMs instead of piggybacks will this kit be available with a reflash or are you planning to exclusively package it with your Interceptor-X?

Cheers,
CJ

Scott, can you be more specific with your ignition upgrade comment? Have you got pnp coils now or are you running a setup similar to Jeff with the AEM twinfire system?

MM's upgrade was a great DIY, except that he mentioned he had to retard the timing becuase the twinfire/MSD combo was firing too fast, as I recall.

Would be great to hear details about Mazsport's ignition and fuel upgrade kits...

what #'s are you running and what #'s do you hope to get until you unleash this badboy to us.. lol.

^ has constant boost until he lets go of the accelerator... dont know how or why because i suspected mine to drop to 5 like everyone else, but it holds 8.9-9 each time... gets me kinda nervous.

His holds boost because his turbo is large enough to do so. It also has the flow capacity to make power at that boost level. You can make the Greddy hold more boost pressure than 5 psi up to redline but one thing you can't do is make it flow enough air to make lots of power. Pressure and power are not as relevant to each other as airflow and power are.

Toxin440 300rwhp is not a problem, I will add you to the order list. Thanks, Scott

This kit is designed for off-road or racing purposes only, please check with your local and state laws regarding highway use. My intention is to provide a complete kit including the fuel system, complete turbo kit and E.M.S. with good base maps installed for this kit. Install everything and drive away. Scott

There is always ways around thing like that. Im pretty sure ive settled on this kit. when people want it badly enough, you find ways around "road blocks". Im not condoning it but .... well.... you get the idea.

with a bit of reading on drive train loss earlier today and looking at your original dyno's again it got me thinking. First we all know the 238HP advertised it mazda's at the crank numbers which most people question anyways.

Dyno of a stock Rx8 (6mt) is just shy of 200HP, so we are looking at 15-17% drive train loss here. Going back to your dyno charts, looking at your 12PSI one (assuming we upgrated the igntion, 350WHP is looking totally doable. Im sorry if im rambling but my point being is you factored back in the drive train loss you are looking at 400HP at the crank! Correct me if my logic is wrong but all that from 1.3L

The direct competitors to our car's class is of course the 350Z and G35, etc.... when you think abou the drivetrain loss.... 300HP at the crank with say 12% (guess?) drive train loss... it would seem that your kit in theory could bump our cars to have about 100 *WHEEL* horsepower over a 350Z?

I'm not aware of what a "safe" PSI to run at for the Renesis is... im no turbo guro (yet) heh but i'd be interested to know if those numbers were with or without an intercooler as well.

I keep being tempted by super chargers as well in my mind but just thinking about your kit and what numbers ive seen im drooling! Please give us some news/updates whenever you can :-D

There is no such thing as a "safe" psi limit as that doesn't tell use anything about airflow. There is only safe or unsafe tuning. Even 1 psi can blow up a poorly tuned engine.

Even with safe tuning, all seals have a fail pressure. What is Mazda's design limit?

The pressure on the seals varies with tuning. To give you an idea, Ari at Rotary Performance tuned a completely stock RX-7 engine (seals and all!) to survive under hard use at over 620 rwhp!!! Others blow up their motors at 300 hp. If one motor survives at 600 hp but another one can't at 300, which one had to endure more pressure?

Oh crap... i've been real busy lately and haven't been able to follow anything on this board, including this thread. Can anyone let me know if Scott has released an "upgrade kit" for people who already own the greddy kit.
Bigger turbo... etc.

I appreciate the help.

BigOLundh,

When I was at mazsport this week (He fixed my last greddy turbo issue), he told me it was not really an upgrade, but a full kit complete with everything you needed to get going. But as he said in his first post, he offers an "upgrade" path for those with the greddy kit if you don't want to remove your front bumper. Basically everything but the intercooler is replaced.

Personally I think you should just remove the front bumper and get the full kit. The intercooler he offers is nicer than what greddy ships with and you're not going to be saving much $$

Interesting. I talked to Scott many moons ago about a turbo replacement to the greddy kit. I guess after R&D that may not have been a viable option.

So with Scott's kit... are any of the greddy parts used, or is it a complete replacement? Then agin there is not much more to a turbo kit then turbo, intercooler, piping, and a downpipe.

Bigger turbos are a problem on the greddy kit. because of that the turbo is sitting so tight inbetween in/out lets. but there is probably a way around that one as well.
