Has anyone tried this or have comments?

Thanks.
You may need to put a check valve in each of tank lines. What happens if one tank runs out of fuel before the other? Wouldn't that pump over heat and fail? Wouldn't you need to equilize the level of fuel in the two tanks?

The gerotor pump mechanism in the Walbro gets damaged almost the instant it is not pumping fuel.

Yeah, I know several people that claim their (supposedly authentic) Walbro 255 pump has/is failing

I met with a principal technical rep from Walbro at SEMA last year. He claimed that he had not ever seen one of their pumps fail, other than when contaminated. I pointed out that I had, in fact seen several fail that were most definitely not contaminated.
He said I should send a few samples of this failure to him. I sent him a rather large bag full of failed Walbros.

He suddenly became completely unavailable and unresponsive to further queries.

Jeff, what would you say is the best option for a new fuel pump. Replace stock, get an 09+ stock pump, or get the modded walbro?

This is good news. I was getting ready to purchase one from BHR then I noticed they were no longer for sale on your site.

Unfortunately, one can only go with a reputable supplier and hope that, when you start buying a lot of something from them, they don't start cutting corners to improve their profit margin.

Walbro was for a long time the go-to choice for in-tank pumps (if you didn't want a big dinosaur like the Bosch).

These days, all I hear from guys I track with are stories of fried Walbros. This is all very recent, so I can't help but think that Walbro took a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude with regards to the sudden influx of Chinese knock-offs.

98% of the time, a cheap pump will be just fine. But, in the case of an FI Renesis, that 2% is a big problem.

long range goals are a good way to survive--i have always been impressed by yours Ray. No ones perfect, but I feel you one of the rare honest people in this business. That IMHO goes further than anything.

It doesn't really flow enough and it isn't a drop-in replacement.

it has been doing ok for me for over a year now. No starvation issues at all and supplies enough fuel to run mine at unscaled maf reading of 365 grams second and a/f's in high 10's? Thats good enough for me?
You are right it is not a plug and play. you have to change one connector and you have to fab up a siphon tube hook up ( 2 worms clamps and a fuel resistant piece of hose).
It is not as powerful as the aftermarket set up, but until the aftermarket pump is finalized its better than the S1 model. So if anyone is caught in be tween a rock and a hard place --it is an option.

It is the same as the S1 model, they just changed the orientation of the siphon and the pickup. The motor is just as weak.

for now I am. I discovered my timing is higher than I thought in 3-4 gear and before my new engine install i had added bigger p2 injectors (blues)to increase my fuel. Not the best way of handling things but better than nothing. My a/f's changed from around 11:1 to 10:5 or so when the P2's came on board.
I did that only for a track event and was running really strong until my ssv vacuum line popped off and it closed. Thats not a good thing.

As soon as I can get on the dyno with this new engine a new tune will be done. Gas is not as good as it used to be just 3 years ago.

S2 model pump is a better pump--this one is made by denso. IMHO its a better cup/filter/siphon set up also.
If an aftermarket pump could be done to the S2 assembly that would be the best?

So - what warning signs would we expect to see if the Walbro is going south ?

It gets louder, the pitch/tone changes (gets somewhat lower) and the pressure starts to drop when the load is kept high for prolonged periods (like track driving).

It is made by Denso, but it is actually no better with regards to total flow at nominal pressure.

True.

Possibly, but the improved pump does cover all the other inadequacies of the S1 design pretty well. It probably isn't worth the effort and added expense.

Were I to go beyond the S1 assembly, I would build an entirely different setup with an active pickup and a return regulation system.

I've just discovered that the BHR store offers the upgraded pumps again -- so has the (suspected) issue with Walbro pump quality been resolved? Or has it never been an issue? I do recall that for a time the upgraded pump was not listed/available at the BHR store, but that could have been just a web content problem...

also, it seems to me that the Aeromotive Stealth 340 in-tank pump is the logical alternative ...

How so? I have been eyeing the aeromotive pump for a while. I figure it should fit dimension wise. Output be too much for the stock regulator?
