The typical issue is when companies choose to use inferior parts or designs. That's an issue regardless of where it is built.

Otherwise poopy happens to even the best of us ...

So, does that mean we can expect another fuel pump solution offering from BHR in the future? Not in any rush, just need something in the relatively near future. Thanks BHR.

I had problems with a second OEM pump in Florida a year and a half ago. I wanted something more reliable and installed a Walbro pump, sourced from BHR. I haven't had any problems since.

I'm into both. I can't afford fine cigars. Better beers are cheaper to sample.

Agreed.

Then again, I am an un-filtered whitbier type, anyway.

Hoegaarden, Franziskaner, etc...

Though, I'll take a Shock Top or Blue Moon in a pinch.

Have the same problem. Two workshops(Including one Mazda- shop!!) have been unable to change my pump and assembly because they need this special tool.

Could you take some good pics when you're on to it?

Just cut the ring off and replace it.
If it is so stuck that the SST can't remove it, it will end up permanently damaged, anyway.

dude this is what worked for me
spray the thing well with wd 40 etc and be sure to include the little holes on top of the ring. Let it soak a little
then take a very DULL chisel--with a very wide head ( tip of the thing should be at least a 1/4 thick- you dont want to cut--then take a small/medium sized rubber hammer--rubber hammer nothing else --then start beating on the thing. No big hard swings--just many medium taps--think how an impact wrench does. Vary the points that you beat. Sooner or later it will come loose.
You may break one or two of the little fins , but that is ok.
Its worth a try if the tool couldnt do it?

Yeah the Mallet and screwdriver idea was the first thing that came to mind and a few plastic fins broke.. Didn't try the WD40 tho... Where can we get NEW Threaded Rings anyways? And how much.. Anyone know?

You can get it from here: http://www.onlinemazdaparts.com/part...layCatalogid=0
Order it from your Mazda Dealer or one of our site vendors Mazmart.

put some lube on the threads when you reinstall it and you won't ever have to worry about getting it off again, I had a tube of thick vacuum grease and used that with great success.

Niiice, thanks guys! I was gonna put Lock Tite on it when re-installed for a sure seal.. And what about the Rubber O rings that are in there, I was thinking about using grey RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizer) as a reaplacement O ring to get a sure leak free seal.. Juss kiddin abou the Lock Tite by the way..

Is it # 18 or # 17 ? I'm confused... I am saving that Web site! $1200 for a replacement gas tank lol yeah right!

Is the plastic threaded ring part number 17 or 18 ? ?

I got this coming from Ebay that is gonna go in my tank after the little melting modd..

Great thread. Just got done reading the whole thing. Thanks all for the info.

My original fuel pump lasted until about 110,000 miles. The first replacement OE pump died in about 4000miles but the dealer was nice enough to replace it as defective for free. The third one (156,000 miles) has now begun crapping out on long distance cruises. Had to pull over and let it rest a few minutes twice today.

Any time frame on a complete BHR or should I just get the motor on the website and fit it myself?

Got the pump today and had it in the car in about an hour. The rotors are zooming again. Thanks Maniac and BHR.

Has anyone REMOVED the stock Fuel Pressure Regulator from the OEM Fuel Rail ? ? I wonder if it restricts any fuel flow at all without the stock ECU... Been looking at aftermarket Fuel Rails but they do not fit stock injectors so I would like to keep the stock Fuel Rail but maybe eliminate the stock FPR...
