Would like to give you credits for believing in your idea, invest time and money in trying it out.

Just like a good scientist you observed(even if observation was triggered by a malfunction), then made yourself a hypothesis why, then put it to test. Very good. Even if it did not work like you was hoping, knowledge is increased.

People like you drives development further.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the positive comments . I really did think this could have been something good for the RX8 community if it had panned out .

As it is - I still think I will dyno the car with this mod in place . There just might be a bit extra up top .
If there is , however , it certainly wont be anything earth shattering.

This is pretty interesting and seems to support what I've been feeling seat of the pants .
Two virtual dynos

New engine with port mod

Old (low compression) engine

Mid range torque seems reduced but there is an improvement from 7000 onwards .

The comparison is a bit skewed below 6500 because I was running an extra 2 psi of boost on the old engine in that range . From 6500 onwards boost should be fairly close between the two plots.

Should throw this in here as well because it shows pretty well the effect of the boost controller on MAF . This is an internal wastegate with the WG arm held at a certain position to stop it fully opening.

Red - no boost control
Blue - Boost control on at 10psi (spiking to 12 at 4500 )

Nil effect from 6500 onwards .

very interesting!
would the difference in gear ratios have any affect on the virtual dyno--I am not familiar with it.

I can see your settings on the side, dynojet with 1.11 is pretty generous

I keep looking for the damn like button!

it would be nice to get a hold of this software just for viewing logs and such!

I don't suppose he has a version like that for free?

Don't think you can import csv logs into it - you need the tactrix 2.0 hardware and then that has to be mated with the software .

hmmm - this is getting better . Cooler IATs this time down to 26C

Still on dynojet setting but yeah ............... 374. In the cool night air the car feels very strong up top .
350whp @ 10 psi might not be such a wet dream afterall ...............

One of the keys to getting a good reading on virtual dyno is a smooth road , bumps etc play havoc with it .

In other news - I learn't how to tune the hillbilly way today . Seeing as how i can't flash my ECU i had to find a way to richen up the tune under boost . An induced air leak just after the MAF did the trick nicely by removing most of the negative trim

Also : set up the overboost safety as talked about earlier using my old vfad valve and a pressure switch - works well !

Think I'm going to redo it once i get my fuel pressure gauge installed and run it off the spare air pump solenoid instead (as suggested earlier) . That will give a more positive dump plus the added safety from low fuel pressure .

Everyone wants to know about the boost dump valve and no one seems to be interested that the port mod might actually be working .... LOL

Maybe (to me anyway) it's because of the way the post reads

Seems like it might be working just because it was cold outside

I've had my car out in -20c and boy does that make a difference

Ok then Brett spill it ... full disclosure ... pics, diagrams and pie charts with a full write up

Yeah that is what is so aggravating to me about tuning. My car runs like a beast when ambient temps are below 50F, but now that it has been getting to high 70's, lower 80's my car seem to be running richer. I will get into the tuning heavy this weekend and see what I can **** up.

whats 374whp, if your fuel pressure drops and you blow the engine.

we demand safety mod details!!!

hehe

i am guessing a hobb switch, solenoid, hook to vacuum box and BOV?

Point taken .
OK - my initial impression of the setup was disappointment because I didn't see a huge gain and the car didn't feel as snappy as i remembered it to be. But when i think about all the things that have slowed the car down incrementally . IE Gear ratios higher , new tyres -slightly larger , removal of LW flywheel, running less boost low down , and high IATs .
Taking all that into consideration , maybe I was a bit quick off the mark . What i felt last night in cooler air was the best the car has ever been in the 7000-8000rpm range .
Does that spell it out a bit better ?
