Not seeing much improved spoolup which is what I was hoping for ........ but i'll take more peak power as a close second

No way I'm going Adaptronics and losing the stock driveability I have now . Might see what the software designer of ME can do .

Your hitting the voltage limit of the MAF no? The only way to fix it would be to use a different MAF or a larger diameter pipe with a rescaled MAF. It's not a software problem.

I've gotten near OE drivability out of a Microtech and with some assistance of Mazdaedit for some minor tweaks. Adaptronic is a much more advanced system with closed loop fuel control so it would be even better with that. You can basically tell it what AFR's you want it to run and it will tune the map for you.

You need to go full 3" already. This is something the RX-7 guys have known for ages :P

Almost hitting the maf limit - a little bit left . But main issue is that calc load is up around 210% at peak - software will not allow me to tune at that load. There are ways around this but they are less than ideal.

There are a couple of guys here that have tried Adaptronics and both switched to ME . One of those had an Adaptronics technician tune his car and still found it was just not street friendly.

I find that really strange. I mean I can get very good streetability out of a Microtech, an Adaptronic is far superior to that so I can't see it being worse. Maybe the tuner was just lazy, which is a common problem lol.

Could be - a lot of guys struggle with maf tuning as well but at least getting it to behave for the street takes virtually zero effort .

I find it strange too. My Adaptronic is far easier to maintain than OE for sure, hands down, bar none.

I guess it's more about how much effort/skill goes into tuning it ............... It's about the only RX8 tuning solution I've never seen in action. For me , I don't think it's worth messing with.

Just because something is hair brained that doesn't mean one who can navigate its train wreck of tables is skilled, LOL.

With New Zealand being so close to Australia it's a shame you haven't had a chance to use the platform.

Never had that issue, 9k did though... Did you take the turbo apart at all when you had it out?

About once a year I pull and drain my ebay catch can. It's usually about 1/4 full of all kinds of stink.

Been talking with 'The Wird '. Seems not uncommon and possibly related to side seal clearances . Have some good suggestions to work on

turbo was rebuilt . Did a lot of miles on the old setup and have never had this issue before .

A lot of things have changed since my last setup though.

Still thinking about possible causes for so much oil in the catchcan .

I'm leaning towards the issue being more to do with air leaking through the turbo into the sump than anything to do with the side seals.

Also : could be related to my increasing the oil pressure recently.

Yeah my issue is/was weird, the catch can has very little oil in it and the inter-cooler did not have much but the diverter valve and the intake piping had quite a bit in it. But lately it has not been an issue. Every once in a while I get random smoke from oil burning too and I can't figure it out for the life of me but I have a hunch it is due to having too much oil pressure at the turbo feed.

I actually found a company that makes a pressure regulator for rotaries for the turbo oil feed line. They are making a new design (oil filter pedestal with npt ports, regulator, and -10AN in and out fittings.) that will be better suited for our setup so I am waiting on that to be available.

I had my UIM out and there was a hint of oil in the pipe and the catch can have a few ounces. I used to get a lot of blow by in the past however it has subsided a lot since the last tune where the timing was retarded.

I just did a boost leak test. And I could hear my oil girgle with the oil cap off. It was from the turbo even thought your turbos have been rebuilt perhaps they need slightly oversized bearings because of normal wear and tear?

Like 449g/s?

I had some oil coming thru until I installed a restrictor. CompTurbo doesn't include them for whatever reason, but I came across a local dealer that helped me out. The restrictor includes a filter. After installing I no longer have oil coming thru and the turbo spools faster.

That would be more of an issue with the internal O-ring which gets flat as a pancake after a few thousand miles.

It needs to be replaced with every rebuild. If they reused it by mistake that would cause a major issue.

The bearings aren't going to cause an oil leak at all. their job is to allow oil to move past and through them then dump out of the turbo.

Tell that to the 3 quarts I dumped into my exhaust and intercooler when my main bearing went out on rebuild #1 last year. It was a mess!

Of course I had bigger problems at the time too.

Every leak test I have ever done on a system with a Greddy , air leaks through the turbo and into the sump . You also get a big smoke cloud after the test .
Doesn't matter if turbo has just been rebuilt or not.

This is what first alerted me to the possibility that the 'blowby' that people typically associate with leakage past the side seals is more likely to be leakage past the turbo seals.

you can probably thank your center exhaust port mod for that ...
