Mostly true in a daily driven car. However, at the track when you hit the main straight it becomes a drag race. Most tracks that I go to have a straight that is around 500 to 600m where you use 4th and 5th gear and can reach speeds over 200kmph is some instances. When you are up against V8 power, Porsche GT3 or Nissan GTR the power difference becomes evident.
Good thing we can corner well the overall lap times even out.

If I had the same up top as now and could get back what I lost down low - I really think the car would be as good a street weapon as it can possibly be with this engine.
To do that with the Greddy pipework ................... GTX3071

In the D.C metro area I see gtr's, mc clarens, ferraris, lambo's, vette's and gt3's and not to mention the mustangs daily. Though the higher end cars don't engage you normally, aston martin's , porsche's, vette's and mustangs get at you at the drop. The only advantage is they never go hard in the turns. 400whp would be nice, but NO kit maker as of yet has done it.

rev it up
The RX8 is very competitive on a tight undulating tracks. On tracks with lots of straights we tend to struggle.
I had a bit of fun with an aston martin last week. I saw him following me for half a km and he was driving aggressively so I knew he was going to floor it at the next set of lights. I had my wife with me in the car and I asked if it was ok to take him on and she approved. So I floored it and left him behind as I headed towards the freeway. I looked over and noticed him gaining on me as I had slowed down soon after reaching the speed limit. Luckily, he was not getting onto the freeway as I did not want to get tempted to exceed the speed limit.
The acceleration in third gear is brutal and you can go from 80 to 120+km/hr within a few seconds.

On a track though, with equal modified P/W (TT2) I struggle to fight built Corvettes because they have so much better high speed aero (I drive a brick with wheels) and insane torque. They might be running the same or less power than me, but they have 60-80 wtq more. I have to make all of my time back in corner exit by getting on throttle super early. The difficulty for an RX-8 is that it doesn't have the torque of a Corvette, but the same drive wheels, same weight, and similar or worse aero.
In the end though if this isn't built as a race car, for the street 300ish at the wheels and -reliability- is all that matters.

Pretty much. One of the main reasons I don't drive the Evo on the road anymore. It's far too easy to get into trouble. Is NZ really bad with traffic enforcement? Where I live is full of cops and speed cameras, which is one of the main reasons I got into tracking.

Seems I'm not done yet - just did an experiment/modification that seems to have gained me 30ish whp.
Red line is with the mod.
Maf is maxed out at 4.97v and 410 g/s (up from 380)
Time from 6000rpm to 8000 in 2nd is down by 0.5s
350whp ( true) might be a possibility after all
Anyone want to guess what I did ?

Hah, I was thinking exhaust when I saw the dip/spike in airflow. Sounds like it was really restrictive before. What does the butt dyno say?

Seriously though - soooooooooooooooo much vibration and noise I didn't really get a sense of how fast it was. The rear pipe is only 2.25" so might do a test with it still on but disconnected to muffler to see if restriction is that pipe or the muffler.
