Yeah **** happens. I was really frustrated last night but I just took a minute to calm myself and then Hoss-05 and I got after it. I would be screwed without the SARX crew because physically I'm hurting bad from spending so much time on the deck

We just didn't want to settle for Greddy HP... Go big or go home.

9k will be running a 100% unique setup, also he is port matched on every port that has a gasket. The stock greddy kit has the most ridiculous overlap, its truly a piece of ****. I feel bad for anyone who bought it at full price.

I'm almost positive if you port matched and increased diameter of the outlet pipes you'd see a 20+whp increase on the stock greddy.

did you all get new piping for the greddy kit? bigger? if not, I am sorry to tell you that most of your porting work is going to yield a very minimal difference. airflow will be better if you did it right.

The major increase is going to be bigger, better turbo. I believe Brettus has been saying this for a long time, More airflow needs more room to flow. Get bigger pipes.

Yeah the work you did on that outlet was impressive, i can't believe the overlap. Hopefully it pays off.

The outlet has been increased to about 1.8 inches. The inlet of course is a 20g and the inlet pipe is matched to that (forget the size in inches). The turbine side mount to the manifold had a 3mm overlap thats been matched. I didn't get a chance to look at the down pipe on 9k's but I'm assuming that could use some work as well. Mine had a **** ton of overlap on the downpipe.

Most guys who are running 20g setups in other cars are reporting 2" outlet on the compressor is the perfect size. What would make the kit even better is a 3" outlet on the cold side of the radiator but whatever.

The 20g should be able to flow enough for 300 whp easy. Anything over 350 is just overkill in my book...

My kind of luck Almost done though?
After running for a few years with my estimated power level--i will also say--hold on to your ***.
If you get over 350 rwhp--lots of other changes will be needed to get that same balance you had before and IMHO it is not as much fun to drive. Flame suit ON!

So I did some research and talked to the machinist (knows turbos) when I picked up Shady's turbo a little while ago and basically Teflon tape or paste should not be used on the fittings. Loctite high temp thread sealer or ultra copper RTV (good up to 700F) is recommended. So I will be removing the hose side fittings as well and re sealing them. So that may push me back another day just to give the RTV time to cure before I fire her up.

The up side is that we can seal Shady's up tight the right way before installing it

I'm going to be happy when I finally get a turbo. You and Shady will have done all the trailblazing for me.

The turbo outlet was ported by AMR. The "L" pipe was ported by the Shady/Houstonrx8er tag team. The turbo inlet pipe was also ported by Shady to match the inlet. The metal gasket between the turbo and the manifold was trimmed to match the ported turbo side and the manifold better.

Does all that make sense? The turbo still doesn't quite sit perfectly on the manifold to match perfectly but that is something to be addressed when I rebuild teh turbo again.

Gotya . I don't remember there being any mismatch of the actual turbine/manifold - but it has been a looooog time since i had mine apart

I'm not sure how close the inside diameter of the openings match since mine were ported a bit but from the o outside the two "rectangles" don't line up perfectly on top of each other.

There is a decent amount of overlap on anything with a gasket... that outlet pipe is just plain stupid. my outlet will be shooting up then curving down to the IC.

the outlet was done that way to save space - at normal Greddy power levels it is not an issue whatsoever . 300+ and I would agree it is going to be an issue . Had a huge argument with MM over that a few yrs back but as yet no-one has tried anything different.

once you start upgrading wheels you need to upgrade the inlet and outlet to match otherwise you are just wasting time.

Luckily for the the WRX/STI/SR20/EVO's all run smaller turbos and upgrade to the 20g or 25g there is a large wealth of knowledge and information in those forums.

Here is a video from the startup when we found the turbo leak: http://youtu.be/QmoIwD4phFs

Lots of RTV everywhere last night. Shooting for another start up tonight.... fingers crossed.
