exactly. We blasted the manifold and identified three cracks. So on Tuesday I will get a quote for a tubular that works with the Greddy and then we shall see what I decide.

So I have another members new BNR 60-1 sitting here and I just got my turbo back from a rebuild from Majestic Turbo here in Waco, Texas. The BNR is a really nice piece and I wish I had gone that route from the get go. Although, I do like some things better on mine, such as the coolant fitting setup and the porting and port matching we (SARX) did on my compressor housing.

Obviously the BNR is larger on the compressor wheel than mine is but mine is a billet wheel from Comp Turbo and it is larger than a out of the box T618Z from Greddy. Which one performs better will be determined but the car this is going on will have a very similar setup to mine. I do have an unmodified Greddy T618Z that is out to ATP Turbo for some fabrication mock up and I will have updates on that later this month.

We do not have graphs for either of these turbos unfortunately.

The hot side of the BNR was coated this weekend by Cradin Industries here near San Antonio, that is not how the hot side is shipped from BNR. The Greddy manifold and downpipe were coated in the same exact stuff. My hot side was coated by Majestic. The cradin stuff should be far superior and my manifold and downpipe will be coated by Cradin as well when I get the crack repaired or a new manifold fabbed up.

Anyway, here are the pics.

Nice. Can't wait to see some results.

Hopefully that coating on the inside of the turbine housing doesn't chew anything up when it starts to flake off. Usually anything before or in/on the turbo I wouldn't coat internally. Downstream it wouldn't matter.

Good pics .... very interested to see the difference between the turbine wheels . Also those are 11 blade wheels . Mine is a 12 blade but with a lot more of a clip than the BNR .

Yeah it's guaranteed not to come off, we shall see on the manifold. On the turbine housings they are not coated internally.

The only coatings I've seen on turbo manifolds survive are plasma based coatings. Those are $$$$$.

The coating can allegedly handle up to 3k* F. It is not ceramic based from what I understand. It will be interesting to see if it can take the expansion of the cast iron.

Hmm, BNR must have changed the design of their turbo upgrades since i got mine from them. I kinda like that wastegate actuator.

Yeah he has, I have seen a few versions over the years. You can buy the wastegate actuator and bracket from him separately.

Yeah i was quoted a price a few months ago but i didn't realize it was a whole new design. I thought it was just an exact replacement.

Way better (for several reasons) to stick with the stock actuator and do a few tweaks ..............IMHO

Nice. Do you have any expectations how this turbo will be compared to BNR and/or original Greddy? More/less lag? More low/high end? More linear?

BNR will make more power than the custom turbo. It will be a touch laggier but not by much.

Can you explain why you are running that particular plug setup and also what gap you are using? Thanks.

They are colder plugs in the leading position, the NGK's will come properly gapped in the box, shouldnt need to eff around with that. I run the same plugs on my set up with BHR ignition.

I am no longer running that setup, I am running RX-8 9's in both the leading and trailing location with stock gap.
