Keeping in mine that I know nothing about turbo's (relatively speaking) can't you fit a bypass restricter in-line before the turbo inlet set to the recommended PSI?

That way your oil pressure is irrelevant to what the turbo is seeing.

That is what I am doing, finding the hardware has been difficult but I think we have it figured out. I have a separate thread on that. We will be testing soon.

So of course a simple turbo rebuild has turned into a fix everything build and I had a little surprise this weekend when I discovered a crack all the way thru one of the runners on my Greddy manifold. I dropped it off for coating and repair and once it is stripped they will be able to tell if they can repair it or not. Fingers crossed.

The Honda is a Honda, it is pretty much indestructible. The GSR is peppy and decent for a daily but it's no boosted 8.

Yeah fazda, I have heard of others with this issue so I wasn't surprised.

Was the crack internal ? IE going from the inside of one runner to the inside of the other . If so , i had the same thing . When I took it for repair they were very dubious about if any repair would last . Suggested i just refit it as is . Which is what i did .
Been fine since ......................

Yeah it is a long crack right up the middle of the runner that is on the outside and inside. There is what looked like a second on another runner on the inside but he said he would need to blast off the old coating first to get a full inspection of it done. You can see where it was leaking from so I would never leave it.

Guy number two is a no go as well. Might be time a for a tubular alternative. And I trust guy number two so if he says it is pointless to do then I am inclined to believe it.

9k, I ran across this yesterday looking for something unrelated, and wondered if you had looked into a separate 12v oil pump for the turbo feed to bypass the OEM oil pressure entirely. I can definitely see some of the advantages, but I might be missing disadvantages.

Electric Oil Feed and Scavenge Pumps

Edit: The page is mostly targeted at bikes, but several of their points seemed to correlate to issues you are trying to solve.

9k,
it is hard to be fixed..it's the problem since a long time ago because of the material that they use..i read alot about the manifold..
sorry to hear that..onless you have someone who can build the manifold, with teh same design, with stainless stell, it would be cheaper than buying a new set of turbo..unless the PTP out of ebay..

He has talked to that guy in length. I think part of the problem is a turbo needs some pressure and lowish flow rates.

It seems like 25psi and 2.6gpm qualifies for that statement, but if he explored it ... he explored it

Okay, good news, I just got off the phone with the famous Corky Bell and he told me that if it is Ductile Cast iron that it can be fixed properly and that he would do it. He told me to call Greddy and find out and instead I thought i would check the Greddy install instructions and when I did I was happy to see that it states, " Exhaust Manifold Ductile Iron Cast ".

He will also give me a quote on a tubular alternative. I may have to sell a kidney and go that route if it is possible.

Yeah I have read that site backwards and forwards and talked to the ornery guy that works there on more than one occasions. I bought one of the components for the oil pressure system setup from them as well. A separate oil circuit for the turbo would work well. But it complicates things so it would be a last resort.

Oh and read the water injection stuff on that site.

Well mr bell is taking care of it, but in general cast is a pain in the ****. You have to have it evenly preheated to a hot temp and use special stick rods.

No mig or tig.

if you can, share the info on this. Would love to have an alternative for the day mine cracks...seems as if it's inevitable. Or a possible upgrade before I even put my kit on

Will do. I am getting a couple of quotes from two guys with experience in this type of thing and good reputations. It's not going to be cheap but **** it.
