Yeah, maybe so, but that is how I feel at the moment,

I'm considering having him tune my Adaptronic too just to save time. Yeah, I can do it myself, but hauling the car out to where it can be safely/legally done and spending one day or more out there banging away on it vs just hauling it down the road a few miles and letting him do it seems worth it overall.

Yeah we will be getting Hoss's car sorted this weekend, he has some vacuum leaks thanks to the new metal UIM that he had to get fixed but the adaptronic is installed and the car runs. We should be able to get it running well enough to make the trip to Dallas. Hopefully we can get him done and have a nice drive back to SA

I am guessing the crack in the manifold was always there (Only found when I took it to get recoated and it was coated when I got it) and I never tested the actuator when I had the turbo rebuilt ( I assumed Turdblown.Comp Turbo did, silly me). When Steve tuned it the first time it had trouble holding boost on the dyno in the higher RPM's but I was on a manual boost controller then so we blamed it. When I added the HKS EBC it helped and ran damn good but still fell off a bit in the higher RPM and it didn't feel as fast as others turbo RX-8's or even OD's Pettit RX-8. It ran well enough but was just not there compared to Sifu's car or Shadycrew's car in terms of speed.

Well to be honest most of the downtime had little to so with the tuning. But yeah it was down for almost a year while I "upgraded" stuff. But a lot of that was redoing doing everything from the oil coolers to a bunch of wiring. In retrospect, making that many changes at once was was not a good idea. But it's over and I am happy with the results and for now it will stay this way while I buy parts and get stuff fabricated for the top mount kit.

Before you do the top mount take it out on the track ........... you will see where any weaknesses are within minutes ....

I don't ever want to do a top mount myself . The only benefit i see to one is when you show people "what's under the bonnet" and they go ooooh ahhhhh at the shiny turbo.

Yeah, after experiencing how quickly this spools and having been in a top mount turbo 8 I am rethinking it. But maybe with a more advanced turbo...... We shall see how it progresses. But I really want to go E85, so that with the Adaptronic will happen first and I have started but the stuff for that already.

I feel I've been missing out on a lot here. Glad the 8 is running solid!

9k, where did you get your manifold repaired? Was it local? I have a crack in mine that's been worked on twice with no luck. I would not mind sending it out somewhere to get worked on.

NGO, long time so see. Welcome back.

I actually got a back up and have that installed now but the famous Corky Bell is going to fix mine locally. Two other reputable places wouldn't touch it. I plan on getting it repaired soon, I can let you know how it turns out but Mr. Bell said that he has fixed plenty ductile cast iron manifolds in the past, they crack fairly often on certain Miata turbo manifolds. I do not have a price yet for the job but when I drop it off I will let you know.

Good to see the car back on the road 9k.
What's your current boost profile through the rev range?
What pressure are you looking to run long term (pre and post E85)?

I thought it was quick before but now I feel like I truly know what a boosted RX-8 feels like, I was grinning ear to ear.

Does he do remote tuning 9K, like similar to what MM does through data logging? I am doing a few mods this spring once I get the car out of storage that will require a retune... although I've had good luck through Jeff in the past, I'd prefer not to take the majority of the summer before it is completely tuned.

He does do remote tuning for customers he has already tuned on the dyno but i am not sure about a full remote tune. But, I am not sure, you can email him at sales@prtperformance.

In general yes, but if you're referring to the Cobb AP then any other tuner would have to start over from scratch since a pre-existing MM tune is locked only for his personal access. In that instance I'm not sure if he would want to make the initial tune remotely, so it would be better to call and ask.

That was on my BNR upgraded turbo. The retune with the GT3071R was

Let me know when y'all head up to Steve's. I have a business trip that might end up right next to his shop.

Yeah I know the MM ones are locked, I was implying that it would be a full tune from scratch.... I'll have to fire off an email to him and see. Was just hoping he would be able to have it done more quickly than Jeff; didnt realize you all had an initial dyno tune first. Thanks for the info!

I weighed my car today. I did my weight with my car split on two scales. 2004 Touring, 19" wheels, turbo kit, custom aluminum reservoirs (2quart) for SOHN/engine coolant/turbo coolant, Mazdaspeed kit, Mazdaspeed strut bar, Stance coilovers with Swift springs, R3 sway bars, 10lb Fire Extinguisher and steel mount, SARX oil filter relocation/turbo oil pressure regulator, gauges, battery relocation to the trunk using a Odyssey PC925, Turbo XS catback and BHR midpipe, etc. 3/4 tank of gas. But a lot of the stuff I added replaced stock parts that may have been heavier so I have added weight in some areas and taken away in others.

Now this is my buddies NA 04' Grand Touring with NAV, 18x10 Forgestars and 265/35-18 Pilots Sports, KD Burn out aero kit, Mazdaspeed wing, SARX oil filter relocation kit, Borla catback, BHR midpipe, lightened flywheel (7lb IIRC), SARX Custom coilovers, battery relocation to trunk using a PC925, GT spec front and rear bars, AEM intake, SOHN/plastic, Reservoir, Racing beat sways. And he was almost empty, gas light was on.

He pulled up on one weigh pad so we could get two different typed of weights but the overall weight should be accurate either way.
