Incredible! It may actually exist after all!

I had planned on getting one of these to go with my CarPC.. but that was 2 1/2 months ago. I have since maintained the absolute OEM look with the oem nav dash housing and transplanted a touchscreen LCD in.

It will however be interesting to see people experiment with this kit.

As for the boot up times on the double dins.. what sort of delay are we talking about?

I considered a double din unit before my CarPC.. for about 2 minutes. If you have the patience - there are so many more flexibility and expansion opportunities!

Before I answer this question, stop and think about exactly what you do when you hop in the car to drive to the store. I hop in, depress the clutch and start the car. Put on my seatbelt and put the car into reverse. Start backing out of my drive slowly. Put it in first and pull on down the road. Actual total time.... about 20 seconds. Within about 50 seconds, I am out of my neighborhood and onto main roadways.

Now then. The Pioneer can take upwards of 70-90 seconds to become fully functional. It depends on the last source you were using when powered down. iPod is painfully slow. (The source I would use the most by far) Audio will play before then, but you will not be able to touch any of the buttons. No song changes. No nothing.

Right.. I didn't figure it was that bad though.

On a completely cold boot (overnight park) my carpc takes 20-25 seconds to boot up. Any other time where I turn the car on it'll just wake the computer up from hibernation and that takes 6-8 seconds.

Other than the longer than normal boot up time, I love this thing..

And its just a matter of time before people will be writing new code to make major changes.

Bluetooth works perfect, the nav system is killer, great interface with ipod, voice recognition works great (had a little trouble with it at first, but now it works great).

I did all my research b4 I got the F90BT. at first I thought it "should not be that bad" ... guess I was wrong.

- The unusual long load time ... much worst than I first expected, with Bluetooth enabled it takes like 2 minutes !! Sure I can set my volume in as little as 4-6 seconds. but wow ! Is that even a feature ? around 30-40 seconds before you can change Audio source ...

- Screen was ultra "non-responsive", Sometimes it does not even work, have to press twice.

- Cannot search POI by name. I have to put in Zip code or address in order to search it "around the" area. what the hell ? what if I have no idea what the zip code/address is? I just know the place by name, but ahh I cant find it.

- Navigation is super funky, I simply cannot find some address, but I can put in the zip code, then scroll the POI one by one. Dont believe me? For Example, Try to find Wayne Mazda by typing in 1244 State Route 23 Wayne NJ 07470. You will never find this address. You can even try the address listed in the POI, it still wont work. but u can pick the POI then it will locate the place perfectly fine.

- Tons of other bugs and crap that I wont even mention it.

Grr, wait for Next patch, hopefully it will be out this month. if it still doesnt fix those problems. Im going to throw it out/sell it off.

if any of u guys can "stand those problems" Im selling it off. I mean it works and stuff. or maybe Im too used to HDD Navigation. cant stand all these wait and crap. F-Series is based on Flash memory which should NOT be that slow ... and I know it has nothing to do with Windows Mobile cuz it can boot in as little as 1-3 seconds. maybe it Pioneer wrote a lot of crappy drivers based on C++ and no Assembler ? LOL !

Guess i should shop around some more... do you have any other suggestions for double din as far as navi + ipod connectivity are concerned? i don't have oem navi and i have an ipod ready to go for the car. I'm not really interested in designing a car-pc either since i currently have neither the time nor the knowledge for that kind of project lol

Many people recommend the Kenwood DNX8120. and some Recommend the JVC KW-NX7000.

I never seen both in person so Im not sure if they're really good. so far I got a lot of positive responds for the Kenwood unit.

Also, people seems to be ok with Z series. maybe I should really try the Z-series.

Oh yes people, you guys can get the AVIC @ 30% off. Just search it on Live.com. Use the Cash back link to go to Ebay. then You can get ur next AVIC unit with 30% rebates. pretty good IMO. when I got my AVIC-F90bt 2 months ago, it was only 15%

Yep, it seems that people really like the Kenwood unit. they dont look as "pretty" as Pioneer or JVC, but at least its functional with little problems.

F-Series has MSN direct. traffic re-routing works but WEIRD. I would not trust it that much. One time it re-routes me to some really weird roads that it's probably faster to "Stay in the traffic" than letting it to take me a 1 day-tour in New Jersey.

Another problem with MSN direct is that its Movie time function is almost useless. Im in NYC and it receives movie time for theaters thats like 20 miles away in Jersey but theater in midtown are nowhere to be seen.

Funny thing is it "finally" got the theater name and movie time when Im like 2 blocks away from the theater(32nd St Kips Bay), so why the hell do I even need this function for ? I might as well just walk into the theater and look at the time myself !~

It could work better in other places, but for midtown NYC. MSN direct movie time function it's just horrible.

Argh

Yeah I believe i'm gonna get the DNX7120.. unless for whatever reason I can justify paying the few extra hundred for the 8120... i dunno that i can though!

yeah but with the 8120 you get built in bluetooth, which you might buy anyways. also comes with hi-volt pre-outs.

I forgot where I got mine but it was around $1100.

Oh and I just know I'm in the top 10 on the list. So sometime this month.. how exciting.

A friend of mine has a Z2. Loves it. He's had it for some time now too. Always seems pretty nice when I ride in his truck.

Surely you guys can still find great deals on D3's new in box? Get the D3X package. iPod and bluetooth included. I can't search on this computer currently, but I would guess you can snag a D3X for ~$750. A little easier to swallow than $1100+.

One thing to note, those of us who said goodbye to the CD when the iPod was released..... you can just keep the navi DVD in the D3 and just use the iPod. I could care less that the navi is on disc.

The D3 really was one of the best headunits. I just don't understand why Pioneer had to drop the ball with the F series.

If it wasn't for the bootup time, IMO, I wouldn't say they dropped the ball. But that is MAJOR. That's not just an error.... they actually thought people wouldn't be ok with that.

I didn't spend a ton of time with the navi like nycgps has. So his complaints may very well be valid.

I never had any experience in D-Series but from what I've researched. when D-Series first came out, it was nothing but problems. Just like what F-Series is doing right now. but Then Pioneer made couple of updates then everyone starts to love the unit. but that "couple of updates" took them like 2 years.

If that is what will happen to the F-Series, sorry, I will not wait, why would I want to wait for them to fix issues thats should NOT be there in the first place.

2 minutes bootup time does not sound like a long wait, but when you have to go thru it every freaking day, 2 minutes before your unit is "Fully functional" I think u be cursing it out everytime you drive.

plus all the other bugs and crap, its safe to say that they totally dropped the ball on this one, trust me, they do.

Rumor saids that they're working mad hard on releasing the 2nd update which will fix most if not all the issue + cut the boot time under 30 seconds. and it should be release in this week if not this month. If thats true. good, this unit will be living in my car for a little longer.

I will consider it when they cut the boot time to be under 10 seconds. And make the buttons responsive to the touch within 1 second. But by then the G series or w/e comes next will be out.
