Rotary Power

Looks like the display might be 12 characters, which is just enough to say ROTARY POWER!

I'm definitely getting on of these so I can put Rotary Rasp's CarPC display in the dash.

Well lets hope insurance repairs my car and if they do, I'll get the kit and the Kenwood 8120 and put them in when I get it back.

Well, I got mine today (the double din High Gloss version) and I have to say, the paint job is pretty rough. Im going to see if I can fix it with some 2000 grit sandpaper and some polishing compound...

Everything else looks pretty good though... so ill get some pics up soon!

Are you serious?!!? I would be pissed #1.... and #2, once you take it into your own hands to repair it, it's yours. There is no returning it. You can't be THAT anxious.

EDIT: And post up some pics of this roughness...

Nice! lets see those pics.

Oh and meguiars makes 3000 grit sandpaper and plastic polish. I think I'll pick up some.

i got my kit today as well and i would have to agree with flyboyindy...the paint job is a great disappointment...especially compared to the factory radio's black finish. I wet sanded with 800 grit and am currently painting winning blue.

as for the question about which head to go with (dnx8120 or the avic d3) go with the dnx8120 if you have the money. if you want to save a little bit of money, it is actually cheaper to go with the ddx812. it is the exact same receiver minus the nav and if you want the nav, you can add the kna-g510 and still be cheaper than the dnx8120.....this is the route that i went and i love it!

i noticed it looked kinda rough from the pics of the flat black version as well on the top left corner. is that where it is on the gloss black one too? might be a problem with the mold.

I thought that was armor-all or something. Noticed similar on the A/C controls.

i am painting mine because i did the same with the factory radio face in my car originally so i want it to look the same. as far as the mold goes....it is a solid piece. the problem almost looks like they were not painted in a booth and dirt and dust came in contact with the wet clear coat (yes...at least they used base clear as opposed to a single stage). I have already wet sanded mine down so i cannot post pictures of exactly what i am talking about.

the color looks like it is a bit off too. almost like it is more of a grey color than the piano black that it is supposed to be.

all and all, i cannot complain because it is significantly cheaper than the corksport kit, it looks better than the corksport kit, and you still have the option to program the dash display so all and all i would have to give it 4 and a half out of 5 stars.

btw.....i am sure that the ones who purchased the hg kit that are not wanting to color change, will be fine to just wet sand with some 2000 grit and polish with some compund and microfiber.

Nah...painting isnt necessary, they really just needed to spend a little more time on wetsanding... its coming out really good! Im going to go over it one more time and then ill be ready to take a few pics....

They were probably just rushing a bit to get it out quickly.. Anyways...back to the polishing =)

There is no steering wheel adapter. Wouldnt that be specific to your head unit anyways?

yeah, you will need to run an swix from pac if you are wanting the steering wheel controls. this is the universal module that can be programmed for any radio with an ir eye and remote control. otherwise you will have to purchase one of the brand specific steering wheel control modules from pac.

yup please post pic after said polishing

early adapters will always run into production teething issues like this, regardless how many times it was delayed lol

Well, the pics dont do it justice, but I was able to get an almost perfect match by wet sanding with 2000 grit sandpaper, and then using Turtle Wax Premium rubbing compound, then Polishing Compound, then a coat of wax...

Now I guess I should install the damned thing...lol

WOW Nice! Not bad at all! I will be doing the same with 3000 grit paper, then polish. Could you post some more detailed pics of the kit? Manuals? etc?

Nope.. those are my ac controls...

As far as the 3000 grit, you might want to be a bit more agressive, as the clearcoat was truly ****.... but use whatever you want...

As far as posting... the next pics you will see will be when its finished... Im getting the whole "get this **** out of my kitchen" from the other half! lol

Im just so excited... everything (besides the paint) is so perfect! The harness and axxess module is simply plug n play... just a few wires to connect!

I should have more to post tonight!
