J, are you working with one of the metra techs like Rollerblades is? It seems really odd that this thing is supposed to fix the exact problem that you're having only after applying the update. You didn't have this problem before 1.2 did you?

A metra guy has been telling me there is only one update and to send my box in and get the matrix style display problem fixed.
... I don't want to do that and have it come back with AC all messed up. He also disagreed with me that there have been two firmware updates already, saying there has been only one that has fixed all problems and there will be no more.... He's been signing his emails with "lead tech", yet he seems not to know we're already up to revision 1.3...

yeah i am working with the techs like roller, the emailed me the 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 update, i emailed him about my a/c problem he has not got to me on it yet, the updates so far were just for the clock issue because the clock was running fast.

my a/c was working off and on kind of like the matrix display, its winter time now but we have had a few warm days where i would of liked to have my a/c on but when i turned it on only had hot air blowing which was frustrating, since i did the first update is when i noticed it the hot air with the ac but the ac has worked fine with this kit before update.

i dont know if its the firmware or if i just have a defaulty box that wont recognize my temp control, maybe its just not picking up that im switching it from warm to cold, POS lol.

the guy you are talking to must be an idiot lol or just not know that there is a designer emailing a few of us with updates

not just lead tech lol, and he is the one that sent me a cable and gave me permission to send it around once there is a stable update. if your metra guy is saying that and our guy is saying something else they must not be communicating to each other, that or the designers went out of there way to help us out and make us test dummies lol, idk whats going on i just want my a/c to work lol

he may also not know that the other updates are being sent to a few of us via email and not being posted on the axxcess web site, he may just be checking the site anmd seeing the 1st version, and arguing that there is only 1 update, but obviously there isnt just 1 update lol, like i said only a few are being emailed the other updates, i dont know when the site will get the updates or if they even already have the updates, you should refer your metra guy to this forum so he can see that there is indeed more then one update and that there have been a few problems not just the matrix display

J_Owens, your AC problem might not have anything to do with the metra kit at all. It could be your HVAC control unit. I know mine went out and it is a pretty common problem. The solder joints are just horrible and break easily. Its a quick fix if you know how to solder.

Check this thread out for the info:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-no-heat-repair-heater-control-158200/

Even if it doesn't help, it will at least rule out the HVAC unit and put the blame on the metra kit.

Basically.. Metra isn't the one who designed the circuit. The designers of the actual circuitry is working with J_Owens and I so therefore support personnel at Metra probably know less than us.

Again, we will let you guys know when there is a deemed stable final release.

J_Owens, you might want to remove that contact info if he did not give you permission to post it.

just thought that i would ask the ddx users out there how you got the swi-jack to work on your hu's. i attempted to install the same piece but ran into the problem that there is no where on the back of the hu to plug in the 3.5mm mini-plug. i still have the harness all wired up and have both the swi-jack and swi-x. just wondering where you plugged the wired remote wire into.

as far as the updates go, u guys are saying that it takes care of the matrix effect.....i would assume that it takes care of all of the display freezes too?

SWI-JACK is the correct one for kenwood. You need to use the plain wire NOT the 3.5mm mini plug. Read the instructions again. Splice both wires and solder together.

As far as the updates, they're still working on it.

which a/c hvac unit could be bad? my tech just checked the compressor and its working fine, i doubt it would be anything else since it was working fine before kit and worked off and on after kit was installed, i know the a/c isnt low on refridgererant because the temp its putting out while a/c is on is 105 degress (checked with temp guage) if it was low on refridgerant it wouldnt be that high, so im sure it is the kit, i emailed the designer a few times but he has yet to get back to me so at this point i am very frustrated

It is quite possible when installing the Metra kit, the removal and reinstallation of the HVAC controls was enough to cause the connections to become in need of repair. My system is doing the same thing as yours. Also like yours it did not do it prior to the Metra kit. I'm going to try to re-solder the connections on my next day off and see if that works. If it does not, I will know for sure the Metra kit is to blame. Hopefully not though.
