It is a few shades off and more of a very dark grey if looked under direct sunlight. At night you can not tell a difference. In daylight it is barely noticeable because there is nothing near the center console that has the same finish, thus there is nothing apparent to compare it to, thus it really looks fine.

If you want you can sand it down and repaint it but you would still not be able to match the stock finish unless you actually went to the original painters.

yeah, the idea of it looking exactly like the stock piano black is somewhat moot since sitting there in your car there's not going to be anything to compare it to. It looks fine to me. No one who has sat in my car has said anything like, gee, that's not as good looking as what you had before. Instead, they're impressed with the HU and start playing around with it, which is kinda how it should be when you think about it. If the face plate is subtle enough not to jump and draw attention away from the HU then I think it must be fulfilling its purpose.

Even my professionally painted custom fabbed dashpiece is not a perfect match, pretty much impossible without getting it done straight from whoever coats the oem pieces. So aside from the firmware snags is everyone pretty satisfied so far? I hammered the **** out of Metra reps I know personally and the engineer I worked with trying to get this thing to market as an alternative to the Corksport and/or custom fabbing something so hopefully it's worked out okay. I finally got my own kit so in a few weeks I'll be able to finally ditch my disassembled and relocated oem radio once and for all. (yay!)

edit: They're all over Ebay by the way if anyone's having a hard time locating one.

just got an email for version 1.4 and will most likely be the final version.

"Gentlemen,

This is release 1.4, which I’m fairly sure will be the last one. I am still watching the clock, so it is not yet posted to the web. We did manage to find the cause of the “blinky” problem, and that is corrected. FWIW, it was only occurring when the lights were on and the dimmer was turned down – we were spending too much time processing the incoming PWM."

Again just for those who don't understand 1.4 is for private testing only. You guys will have to wait a bit longer.

And also again, 1.1 fixes critical A/C indicator and freezing issue. However the time runs fast and the custom text display is slightly glitchy.

On a second note.. My volume down steering wheel button doesn't work anymore. All the other ones do though. I wonder how my volume down button changed resistance.

For those with heated seats: do both heated seat buttons light up when you turn on your lights, or just the driver's button? yesterday I noticed only my driver's seat button lights up when my lights are on. The other one still actually heats the seat and the light that tells you it's working comes on, but the little symbol showing the heated seat doesn't light up.
I'm trying to figure out if I blew a fuse or something while installing my kit. I haven't noticed any other problems, so I figure it could be normal.

When I first installed my Metra kit, it was fine for a couple days.
Then the clock started going fast, and once in a while I would get the Matrix looking display.
I took everything out to change some stuff and re-wire the carpc, and now the clock runs fine, but AC display does not change.
Everything works correctly, but the display does not change.
I know others have had the same issue.

Anyways, I can live with it for now, and once the final version is done, I'll try to find someone to update it for me.

I think he is.
Maybe he let someone borrow his cable. I know he had it cause I was planning on
attending their meet to get mine updated once it's finalized.
