Anyone out east doing the same thing? It might make sense to keep things geographically close unless the only people sending cables around are on the west coast.

I'm in South Florida, and at some point I'd like to get access to a cable. I have the Metra adapter, but I haven't installed anything yet, so I'm not in a huge hurry...

I decided to give the stereo shop a try again yesterday. They let me use the cable for free this time and I was able to update. 1.4 woo hoo. It still gave me a few problems, but after a couple of calls to Metra we were able to figure it out. So I guess my name can be removed from the mailing list.

FYI, if anyone gets an error message when attempting to open the USB bootloader program, just right click on USB bootloader icon and click on "run as administrator". That was the problem I was having.

Thanks everyone, (especially rollerbldes and J_Owens), for all the help on this. This forum rocks.

Later,Dan

Looking at buying the Double Din Metra Kit. Can anyone tell me if it is up to par now? I remember reading that it can screw up the AC and Heat... I live in Iowa and need my heat right now! haha. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, how hard is it to hook up everything? Would you recommend me taking to a car audio shop?

My new RX-8 kit has been having all kinds of problems.

* Hazard signal doesn't work
* Temperature doesn't show on display
* Cannot change HVAC fan direction
* Cannot change fan temperature
* rear defroster doesn't work

I can change the clock and text on the display, and the fan itself does work. It looks like two purple wires on the fan plug aren't connected but I didn't see anything for them to be soldered into.

Is this all related to the firmware update I should get?

From the sounds of this kit, it sounds like it's basically permanent. Is this correct? Or if and when I sell the RX-8 I'll be able to put the stock HU back in?

A few questions

Guys,

I am thinking of getting the single din kit in the next few days and I had a few questions:

1) How reliable is it?

2) Do I need to get an additional cable or is EVERYTHING inlcuded in this kit?

3) Will your single din receivers blend right in or will there be a gap...ie do i need to buy a harness etc? I will be installing a Blaupunkt MP66 receiver. Has anyone else put one in?

Thanks for your help.

I have a single DIN Metra kit with a Kenwood eXcelon installed. To answer your questions;

1) As long as you have firmware version 1.4 it is very reliable. I started with V1.0 (which had many problems), and updated to 1.4 as soon as it came out (about two weeks ago or so). Make sure where ever you buy your kit from they update it prior to sending it out.

2) The kit comes with everything you need for installation except tools. The only extra cable you might be interested in is the cable to update the axxess box. If yours comes with 1.4 firmware you probably won't need it. The cable is $50 or $60 though and 1.4 is supposedly the final release. I went to a local stereo shop and borrowed thier cable for a few minutes to do my update.

3) If you have the metal cage sleeve that the Blaupunkt slides into you will be able to mount that in the dash piece from the Metra kit then just slide and lock the Blaupunkt in place. The kit comes with ISO mounts as well, if you want to go that route. As for the front the Metra kit comes with a trim piece that surrounds the stereo face after installation, but it did not fit very well with mine. I used the trim that came with my Kenwood and it looks perfect. No gaps or fitment issues at all.

I can post pics here or email you pics of my install if you want.

Hope this helped.
Later, Dan

The only thing I can think of is if you spliced the cable for the steering wheel adapter. If that is the case that would be the only cable you would have to reconnect in order to drop the stock HU back in.

I just got mine from autotoys.info since it was cheaper then everywhere else and they said they updated it before they sent it out.

Big mistake...They didn't send me the AXXES box with the kit and they don't seem to want to do anything about it claiming I must have mis-placed it. GRRR..

Does anyone know where I can order JUST the axxess box or am I screwed?

I wouldn't give up on that. I'd climb all over their asses and call/email them daily until you get your box or refund for the kit

Call up metra, find out if they are an authorized dealer. If not, you might be screwed. Also, you might be able to order the box by itself from metra. Keep in mind the box is the most expensive part in the kit by far.

kanjas, i got my kit from autotoys as well when it first came out and i have to say i was a little worried after not receiving it for a long time. plus reading all the bad reviews about their site during the wait time didnt help. my advice would be to try to contact them, and unfortunately they dont really have a phone number that u can call. just continuously email them over and over till they give u ur box. if they wont, my best advice would be to threaten to cancel payment (even if its already cleared) if they wont send you the axxess box. and if they still refuse, call up ur credit card company or bank and tell them whats goin on and they'll take care of it for you. or at least i hope they will for ur sake. ive dealt with stuff like this before with different vendors and its always worked
