Killed 50% of my electrical system with one snip....

I'm sure some of you have seen posting about installing a LOC...

Well, I got a little cut happy and tired of hanging out of my trunk trying to get perfectly...

Well, in thinking I was splicing into the rear speaker channels, I cut the wrong bank of wires... 3 total.

Trunk light instantly went out... but upon further inspection, I lost A LOT of systems with this cut... Checked some fuses, they seem good. I figured I would post here for some help.

Systems out:
Keyless entry, light warning constant beep, dome lights, map lights, trunk light..., stereo, information display, Stereo back lighting.

Power windows work, mirrors work, lights work, signals work engine runs, (it did reset my trip odometer.)

I attached a pic of the 3 wires I cut... I checked some fuses in the door and audio system etc. all seem fine.

Where should I look next?

Check the fuses under the hood. Sounds like you blew a fuse there instead. I think theres a room fuse or something that controls power to the entire cabin, but I'm not sure. Good luck man.

If you are cutting into your wiring harness. your battery should be disconnected. ALWAYS. This is exactly why.

Oh yeah, make sure you cover those bare wires before applying power to anything. NEVER leave exposed bare wires. fold the end over and tape it up or use heatshrink on it.

you should not be in that harness at all for cutting any wires for a stereo.

The harness you need is the one plugging into the amp. there is a pink wire with black stripe, tap that for remote wire.

Well, you can cut speaker wire without having to disconnect the battery. . . and I thought I had the speaker wire bundle. . . so I didn't disconnect the battery.

Eh, lesson learned I guess.

But, I'll start working through the under hood fuses. Any ideas where to start? It seems like this may have blown a few different fuses based on whats under the hood already. But I'll start checking.

I just want to confirm we all agree blown fuses somewhere?

Any idea on what those 3 wires I cut were for?

If you're very lucky, you only blew fuses.

I would start by tracking down the pdf of the RX8 factory service manual there are links for it around here... somewhere. Check the stickies. You might be able to figure out what they are from the wiring diagrams in the electrical section.

Well, thanks guys.

I blew one fuse, interior light 15amp fuse. Everything is back to normal now.

. . . and I think I'm done messing with wiring for awhile.

Just disconnect your battery first!

I'm glad everything is ok. Learning through experience can be scary.

Getting anxious to have your system, rushing into things, and you're asking for trouble.

Do your research, don't be so cut happy, and you'll save yourself a fortune in installation labor.

Yea, stopped into a car audio shop, got some advice from them... took my time, now everything is hooked up and the install completed.

I think I'll leave wiring for the professionals.

Or until I get my footwell lights
