summing a stereo signal to mono?

So, I've got a front center channel on my system, and obviously such a signal needs to be mono, or it will send the stereo imaging all to hell. I'm looking for a box, the smaller and cheaper the better, that will take a pre-amp level signal from my cleansweep, and convert it into a true mono signal to pass to my equalizer for the sub and center channels.

I've been searching google, and all i can find are Y splitter cables (no. just no.) 3000 dollar summing mixers, and not much else.

Theres gotta be something small and passive that does this. My amplifier is currently generating a mono signal for the center channel, but that means its piggybacking off the front channels, and thus is being effected by the EQ of the front speakers. I do not want my center channel effected by the EQ on my door speakers. My EQ has 6 channels, and damn it, I'm gonna use them all. God knows I paid enough for the thing.

So can anyone tell me where I can get a device to accurately sum a stereo signal into a mono one, with very low distortion?

Can't you just wire the two together and use a resistor?
