The pics look great! I am getting ready to add my camera tomorrow. Any pics of how you ran the wires would be great! Thanks in advance.

thats going to be kinda hard to shoot.. the camera wire and the Led wires run up through the whole in the bumper where the OEM light is mounted. Inside your trunk you will see a rubber grommet about the size of a quarter. it is on the drivers side corner nere the tail light. pop that out and stick a coat hanger or a Fish tape in the whole.. IT will come out where the OEM light is mounted. then you can pull your wires into the trunk and use the oem grommet to seal it back up. Then the wires are just wire tied to the harnes along the back. Then i pushed them behind the trunlk lining tell they were at my AV box.

Once you open you trunk and take the rear plastic cover off it will all become clear.

Warning objects appear about 5 miles away in the camera!

Just FYI its a very wide angle lens if you look back at the pic with the White car behind me. it appears to be at a safe following distance !!! Wrong that person was about 2 feet from my Rear.
So the Camera makes it look like stuf is very far away but it gets a very wide and tall shot !

Enjoy.

Hi Thew, would you be able to tell me where you purchased that camera?
Its my dream to have a rear view camera like that, as you know the RX has a very limited back vision.

Also my car didnt come with the in-dash LCD like yours, so can I purchase that exact same one somewhere too?

I live in Malaysia so Mazda agents here are crappy with accessories... if possible can you point me to a site where I can purchase a set like yours online.
Ill think about the nightmare of installation later

Thanks.

If you dont mind, a couple more questions...

From your experience driving with that rear view camera... is it able to replace the job of your mirrors? Is it actually usable in everyday driving? I imagine, such an angle of vision is enough for me to navigate... any dangerous blindspots?

In your experience, is the camera usable at night? Usable as in, able to help you navigate... I dont need to see the drivers faces just want to switch lanes without hitting somebody.

the whole kit came from AVelectronics .. check our Vendors fourms. thell send it to you in about 1 week.
IF you dont have then in dash system just buy a compleat system from Crutchfield or any other electronis store. YOu can get a unit that will have a pop out LCD and then just hook up the review plate camera . or any other camera to the LCD. Then you can add other things to the LCD later like GPS , ... The box from avelectronics is a t.v. tuner and a 3 A/V input switcher. so you can have 3 input sources and the T.V. tuner as well.. IT will drive 2 secondary vidoe outputs. so you can have up to 3 lcds..

camera is great at night .. but in the dark it is still dark
you can only see if there is some light . But tail lights and head lights you will see..

As for using it like a REar View Mirror.. I posted above that it is really a very large Fish eye lens . so things appear way way way far away. If you tried to use just the lcd to switch lanes in traffic.. and you looked and saw a car that appeard to be far enough away to change.. you would most deffanatly be hitting that car !
its just to big of a view to use it like that.

If you use it as a assist to the mirrors its great. Now I look in the mirrors then i check the camera to see my blind spot behind the rear bumpar. then i change lanes and yes i still turn my head !

Ok...so I installed the rearview camera and got nothing but a black screen...pretty pissedafter going through all the work to mount it and run the wires to find out it doesn't work. Worse yet, avelectronic does not have anymore in stock so I am stuck waiting until tuesday and dealing with the manufacturer for warranty returns...ugghh!

are you sure you gave the camera power ?

If you are getting a black screen the the camera is doing somthing.. the ave unit wil give u a blue screen when theres no input comming in. so a black screen means theres somthing happening.. did you plug the camera into the right input ? av3 is for the camera.. you have to use the svideo to rca adapter.. yellow rca

I am sure you checked this .. just trying to help...

did you ground the black wire from the camera?
White wire is 12 volts pos.

car in revers will auto switch to av3 regardless. but if you power on the av box and switch to av3 u will have camera all the time if.. you hooked the power up to the Nav dvd player or avelectronics box power source?

Tried all of that and even an external display. Tried input 2 & 3, manually switching the video monitor. I have spare LCD screens and even tried that to no avail. double, triple and quadruple checked power and ground as well. I used to install this stuff when I was younger and have a full tech garage in my house. Oh well. I was hoping to show it as part of my mods at the Rev it up in Philly. Guess that is one mod I won't be able to show.

I won't find out how long until Tuesday when I call the Manufacturer for an RMA#. Hopefully they will ship me a new one before getting the old one back.
