AVElectronics NAV Video Tap Installed!

OK...So it is mod week for my 8. In the last 7 days I have installed

1) Illuminated Push to Start
2) Piano Black with Rotor Symbol B Pillar Trim
3) Aluminum Door Sills (These are sweet)
4) Side Strakes
5) IPT Carbon Fiber Engine Cover
6) MazdaSpeed Grounding Kit
7) CP Racing Strut Tower Brace
8) Floor Lighting Kit
9) Illuminated Shift ****
10) Replaced all of the interior lights to Red
11) Hardwire installed the Passport 8500 X50
12) Exhaust Finishers

and finally...

13) THE AVELECTRONICS Navigation Video Tap with custom S-Video inputs thanks to the AVelectronics gurus.

I must say it was a pretty easy install and I now have DVD movies playing on my stock nav screen. I must say the quality of the video reproduced is ok to good. It seems the color synch is a little off and I sometimes get a bright bar across the top of the screen. I have tried grounding the hell out of the unit and video grounds to get a better picture but I don't think it is going to get any better. So far I have only tested it out with my portable DVD player. Tomorrow I am going to try hook up a PS2 to see if it synchs any better with the display.

Now I can't wait for my Canzoomer Stage 2 kit to arrive.

Just call me the mod freak :D

Oh forgot to add
14) Brushed Aluminum Fuel Door from Rosenthal

What would you like to see pics of? The screen with video or the install? The install is not real clean as I am waiting until I decide if it will be ps2 or xbox.

heh. I don't even have a backup camera on my 35' RV, and it has no center rear view mirrors either (no window out the back).

Why would you want/need it for a little RX-8?

I paid 615 shipped. 595 plus 20 shipping. Mine was more expensive than the standard unit because I had them install a custom svideo board and connector for me. Trying to get better resolution out of it. I tried to order the rear view camera as well they said they are out of stock and would be for quite some time, so I am looking elsewhere for it.

I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them for you.

The rearview is just a cool feature. The system is setup so that if you put your car in reverse it will automatically put the rear view camera on display so you can see things that might be below the trunk line. You can also turn it on with the remote.

They don't provide any wiring schematics other than the video tap. So I am waiting until I have the camera before I go looking for the wire to tap.

Talking

Could you please post a pic of the installation manual? The point I'm interested in the most is, which wires have to be cut and what they are good for. Since I'm from germany and ordering in the states is actually not an option for me, I have to find another solution to connect my PS2 to the stock system.

So, PLEEEEAAAAAAASEE, help me!!!!!!!!! :D

Why do you want to install the avelectronics boxs behind the back seat? is there not a easyer location like in the trunk? behind the glove box? etc... just woundering cause i am getting ready to install mine today.. I am not sure where the wireing harness is that i have to cut into.. IE behind the dvd player in the back.. ? is this why your putting the unit back there ?

I mounted mine vertically in the trunk behing the passenger side back seat. It was the easiest access to the wire harness (behind the DVD player)

I mounted it to the plastic wall. No cutting at all. Ran the wires down through the slit at the bottom.
