Thew,

Did you notice that the pioneer box looks exactly like the Av box? I bet there is 1 manufacturer out there and the outside is just relabeled. It is to coincidental that the connectors are all in the same location. Anyway, anyone on the east coast that needs help with these just PM me. I am in NY about 25 miles north of the bronx.

I think you may be right.. Or it s a good copy.. the avbox .. much more expensive.. but Pioneer says there not making that unit anymore. I think ther just getting ready to sell one thats better.

So it does work. Does install take long and is it hard? Could I use it to play My X-box on the NAV screen?

Thew,
Does the Pioneer unit do the switching between nav and dvd, or is there a separate switch?
Thanks,

I just ordered the parts (except for the rearview camera) and I'll try to document my installation with photos when I get the parts.

Are you installing the AVElectronics unit or the Pioneer unit?

Sorry Thew, but I've read this entire thread twice and can't find out anything about this ir/osd box other than that it is shown in the block diagram, but no function or construction details.

I used the search feature on the board and only found this thread.

Guess I'm just incompetent.

from what i understand the ir/osd box takes place for the pioneer boxes lack of built in infrare red eye for the remote... also i have gathered that the ir/osd also controls the sync... i could be wrong i just know that you need it..

sorry my above post was not directed at you.

I know that you have to run a I/R reciver to a location somewhere in your dash. I put mine in the mp3 blank in the head unit. Thats all i know.. the Pioneer and the AV box are almost the same unit. they both need you to run an I/R reciver cable. Ihave no idea what the OSD is ..

As for sync.. you get the sync signal from the back of the OEM dvd player. so no clue what the osd would have to do with that ..

No prob.
The only thing that comes to mind for IR/OSD is Ifra Red/On Screen Display. That's just a guess, though.

Correct.
In terms of the Pioneer box, the IR/OSD box is something you have to make on your own.
The IR function of the box is to control the tuner unit by pointing it at the eye wherever you decide to mount it, instead of having to point it at the tuner box (if you decide to mount it behind you somewhere).

The OSD function of the box is to modify the composite sync signal into something the Pioneer box can understand. That way it can overlay the on-screen menus directly to your lcd display unit. Otherwise, you would have to make menu selections blindly.

Keep in mind that the Pioneer box is best used with Pioneer navigation units, and Pioneer displays. For OEM navigation input/output some cutting and splicing (and in this case, soldering up a circuit board) is absolutely necessary. If you had a Pioneer lcd display unit that was compatible with the GEX P7000TV tuner then you wouldn't have to worry about making the IR/OSD box, and everything would work like hooking up a vcr to a tv.

For more details, follow the links at the start of the thread. Then read and click through all the links regarding wiring and the ir/osd unit.

Thanks for pointing me back to those links, GiN. Yes, I'm planning on using the Pioneer box and the Blaupunkt DVD player.

This looks to be pretty easy, and it ought to be fun too!

I'm wondering how hard it would be to add a reverse camera to the second composite input. Hardest part would seem to be reversing the image. Cameras that reverse the image internally are available, but I'm cheap and want to use a low-priced one!
