It's just any 4-pole relay with a 12volt DC coil. Any decent electronic supply house ought to have them.
also.. how will you do the switching between nav and dvd-me3? will it be a switch you install and flipp it on by hand? or will it be a relay that switches when it sense power from the dvd-m3?
That's what I'm working on now. The simplest way is to do the switching with a manual switch -- that will work with no problems, and it won't require digging into the DVD-ME3 and attacking it with a soldering iron.
But my goal is to find a point that goes from low to high inside the DVD-ME3 when it goes from "Standby" to "On" and use that point to operate a small solid-state relay which will, in turn, operate the 12 volt 4-pole relay so that the switching will be semi-automatic.
dam the gears are really turning! im almost toally done with my ir/osd box and if this solution turns out well im going to kick myself for building this ir osd box for the pioneer
If nothing else, you can sell it to Thommino in Italy. The Nav-vision converter won't work on a PAL system, so he is still going with the Pioneer system and needs the IR/OSD board.

Why avaletnonic don't make a Pal version? :-( I could use it.It's very expensive but more easy.

I suppose it's because they don't think they could sell enough PAL units. Who knows?

well... im going to pick up my pioneer gex-6400tv today which includes the antenna's unlike the 7000, but lacks the remote for it... but i was smart, i found a shop in downtown manhattan that had 1 of them for 25.00 versus the 1 other place i found on ebay for 40.00 plus tax. i picked that up on friday.. today ill get the pioneer box... tonight finish soldering my ir/osd box... and probably next weekend hook the vga cables up to the navigation without the box, then when i get time start wiring the pioneer box into the car.

im still jealous about the relay and the converter, i wish i thought of that, it just seems much easier.arrr whatever i guess my solution is best for my needs since im going to put my g4 powerbook in my car, so i wont really need the dvd-me3. oh well let us know how your relay solution comes out and ill keep everyone updated on how mine does

Here's a quick update on my DVD with Nav screen project.

I'm still waiting for the signal converter, so no news on that.

I bought the relays today. I had to use a miniature 5-volt coil relay instead of a solid-state relay because I couldn't find a solid state relay that was small enough (locally).

The good news is that it works. The small relay pulls in when the DVD-ME3 transitions from "standby" to "on" and releases when going back to "standby" or powered off entirely. This will allow for automatic switching of the signals.

The (kinda) bad news is that to have this automatic switching requires some surgery on the DVD-ME3, and while it's nor really difficult, it's definitely not for beginners. So if you are not experienced in soldering electronic boards you'd be better off just using an external switch (or getting someone who has some experience to do it for you).

Yes, I am taking photographs of every step of the project and will put together a DIY with circles and arrows and four-part harmony.

This is a major step in this project, because I didn't know if the small relay would work off the 5-volt logic signal that I had located -- but it does!

By the way, I burned a bunch of mp3 files to a DVD-R disc and the DVD-ME3 plays it just fine.

Stay tuned, though I will be out of town for a couple of days -- going to Phoenix, AZ for the Dead concert tomorrow and then taking a swing by Las Vegas on the way back. I hope my converter board is waiting for me when I return!

Update:
The Nav-Vision board is installed. Rudy at Nav-Vision sent me a complete universal unit with the relay wired up and installed in an enclosure with leads coming out of the box. It works nicely and there is even a place behind the stock nav dvd drive to stash it.

I'm still troubleshooting my auto switching setup (I probably wired a relay wrong) but it works fine when manually switched.

The Blaupunkt DVD-ME3 doesn't bother my nav system at all. I mounted it the same way Thew did. It's the only part visible, and even that's only when the trunk or the pass-through is open.

All I need now is an aux-in for the audio and a back-up camera.

Photos and step-by-step instructiona are coming, but might be a little while as I have a road trip up and down the West Coast coming up soon.

bobclevenger, two quick question -
- did you buy the kit, or just the board ?
- Did you get it from his site, or off eBay ?

I have a Mazda3, and am looking to try this out pretty soon...

Thanks,
Ray

Make TV on you RGB screen by YOU self!

NTSC Video to RGB converter allows any video signal to be shown on RGB output device. This means you can show video/dvd/tv/sat movies, etc... on your standard automobile factory installed car navigation monitor.
- Users can adjust various functions like Contrast/Tint/Pix/HUE.
- Board work stability from 7 volt to 14v DC.
- Have removable jumper for video input, resistor 75 om.
- Sync inverted/normal
- RGB output Hi and Low

This board perfect for all analog RGB devices, like car Navigation screen (tested with VW, Lincoln, Volvo, Porche, Jaguar, Infinity, Nissan, Lexus, Mazda etc.). Easy to install. Instruction included.

you can aux in though the me3...

or splice a y inline with the me3 and stick in switch.

take a pic so i can see.. I am very hapy with the Dvd mounted there.
I did have to send it back for a replacement the first day. but that seems to have been a fluke. the 2nd unit has been working great.. No i need to add a wireless headphone system.. one that wont make my v1 go crazy

I may just wire up a headphone jack in the pasengers side of the center consoule.

the ME-3 unit has a tv tunier built in. that will give you dvd,cd,and tv

cost a few bucks more than my ME-2 but Ibought the avbox with the t.v tuner in it.

P.S. the T.V. tuner thing is stupid anway ! you dont really get much t.v. so dont let that stop you .. I just flip the t.v. on in diffrant citys to see what s out there.. but i cant say i have ever watched it for real

Here it gets most spanish tv stations.

adios amigos

Yes, pics are coming ... thanks for the mounting idea.

And you are right about the TV tuner being pretty much useless.

I bought the board from Rudy's site after sending him several e-mails about his product and finding out how it works. I decided to work on an RX-8 installation and ordered the board only. Rudy sent me the $300 universal kit for $150 since I was doing the installation development for the RX-8.
If you are good at soldering and following schematics I would suggest the $200 kit, since it has all the parts and the correctly-sized box.
Before people found out about these converters they were selling pretty cheap on eBay, but not now. Going to his website is the best way.

this converter will work just as well as the avelectronics unit.

you will still have to cut 4 wires behind your oem dvd player but thats east.
