no, he's saying with the car in ON, but not started, you can put the shifter in reverse and the lights come on.

Speaking of resistors for the signals...


Where's the best place to put these? I only upgraded my rear signals, but is it still best to put them under the hood? The trunk seems the easiest/most stealth spot. Do they heat up to the point where it's bad news to have them in the trunk behind the carpet/plastics?

 

those load resistors can get quite hot so I took out the carpeting in the trunk and stuck them against the inside wall in a spot where the carpet shouldn't make contact with it once re-installed.

as for the fronts: I haven't figured out where I'm putting those. yet.

 

Resistors get much hotter on cars that run a single bulb for parking AND signal (such as S2 RX-8s). On S1's, they are only seeing current for those short bursts while the actual signal is on. Having said that, I would still install them away from carpet and plastic. Behind the carpet just to outside of the tails is the perfect place. If you get the correct resistors you only need them in the rear, none are needed in front.

The car measures the load for the entire side (front and rear), so the resistors linked below simulate the load of two bulbs. You only need one per side (installed front or rear depending on which is easiest.)

anyone have tip to install fog light led's. seems like its very tough to get at. These things are hard to install.

Since i installed the new premium lights my radio goes static when i hit the brakes

Hey Aipex...car looks great bro! Thanks for keeping the first page current. Certainly dont mean to make more work for you but Ive been following this thread for some time now and I wanted to make a suggestion. I know in some locations you had to make some type of slight modification in order to make a bulb fit or make it work more efficient. Now that your done with the conversion, I was wondering if you wouldnt mind indicating on the first page at which bulb location a mod was needed. For instance, "Parking Lights and License Plate: (see post #??? for mod info)"....or something to that effect. You have quite a following and even though we encourage members to search before posting questions, I thought that might help people out a great deal. Just my .02.

FYI, V-LEDs sent me 30 ohm resistors instead of 3 ohm by mistake. I tried them anyhow, and they worked on my 2005. Heat isn't much of a concern at 5 watts.

 

Premium or Platinum? (premium are the new HID bulbs, platinum the signal/brake/reverse bulbs)

I'm assuming you meant platinum. I'm not sure since I'm not using those bulbs for brakes. The first thing I would do is try swapping just your stock tail/brake bulbs back in to see if that's what's causing the problem. I would then send an email to tech@v-leds.com and explain the problem to them and see if they've heard anything like that before.

I was able to snag a pair of the new platinum bulbs for my brake/tail lights. I already have a pair of the high power version, but since there was a 50% off promotion, I figured I might as well try 'em out.

So, the new bulbs finally arrived today. I had to put them in as soon as I got home from work. I swapped one side out to compare the high power and the platinum bulbs. Honestly, I couldn't tell any difference. My eyes were telling me that they're both equally bright, although, I kind of expected the platinum one to be brighter. Well, newer is better, right? Not in this case. The platinum bulbs still look like very nice, high quality bulbs, no doubt about it. But I don't think they're any brighter than the high power bulbs, which are probably discontinued now. They sure look like they're built to last.

Anyway, I still completed the swap. I put the platinum ones on my RX-8 and "relegated" the high power bulbs to my dad's new CX-7. They look spectacular on his CX-7, though! I wish there were bulb shields on the RX-8, just like the CX-7's. That would look more polished (than the exposed-bulb look).

I also order a set of 6000K H11 xenon kit for my fog lights. I'll put those in once the weather gets warmer/nicer.
