Well, you bring up an interesting point about the "bulb cover". The stock US foglights have a metal cap that part of the bulb sits inside of. The Japan and Euro spec RX-8's do not have that cap. I removed mine some time ago to get a little more output from the bulb, but it really didn't change much. If you are thinking of purchasing the LED bulbs that I've posted here you will absolutely need to remove the caps because the LED bulb is much larger than the halogen bulb and would not fit with the cap in place.

I removed mine by simply sticking my finger inside the housing and moving the cap up and down on the thin metal stalk that connects to it. eventually it will break off and you just pull the cap out (note that the cap is slightly larger than the hole, so you'll need to give it a squeez with a needle-nose first).

As for your yellow fogs, the caps have nothing to do with that... If you have both the clear foglight housing and a clear bulb, the light output from a halogen bulb will look yellowish, especially if you are comparing to HID headlights. If the foglight housing has the multicolor/ion tint on the lens (looks blue) that will cause the foglights to have even a more yellow appearance.

If you simply install LEDs in the Brake/running lights you will get both DSC and ABS lights until you do some pretty impressive mods to fix it.

Just to clarify, you only get the ABS light if you put LED's in the center brake light. I replaced my 2 brake lights with LED's and haven't had a problem...

Looks good r0tor, are those the same ones that I have? Nice to see them next to a standard bulb to see how much brighter they are (I had different LEDs in mine before).

Sorry about not posting night shots with my 6000K HIDs, been busy at work and lazy at night I'll try to get some tonight.

Sure. Any D2S bulb will work. Just remember that the higher the K, the lower the light output will be. I wouldn't go higher than 6000K for that reason. Also, none of the OEM brands (Philips, Osram, etc) make a bulb higher than 6000K so you'll have to go with a cheaper brand.

The higher the K, the more blue the light output will be. Think of light as a combination of all colors of light. The brightest is going to be pure white because it has equal parts of the full color spectrum. If the light is more blue, what that really means is less of the other colors in the spectrum, so the overall brightness will be lower. So as the K number goes up, the brightness goes down. The stock color, 4300K, is very close to pure white. 6000K has a little blue and is usually considered an acceptible compromise between looks and light output. Also, if you go lower, like 2500K, you get into the yellow color and again you start getting less light output. Here's a color temp chart to give you idea:

Oh, and still no pics. I took my car to the dealership at 59900 miles and had a compression test because I've experience a slight loss of power on some longer trips and I wanted to have it checked before I hit 60K. Sure enough, it seems I may need a new engine. They are going to do a decarb on Tues and if that doesn't help it's new engine time for me... so it will be a while before I can take pics.

The LEDs are very bright in the housing. In other words, when you look at the car they look almost as bright as a halogen bulb. But they don't put as much down on the road as the halogens. So basically, they are bright enough to make a good DRL, but not useful as a real fog light (same could be said for the stock halogens).

Does any one know how long these will last? I bought an aftermarket set of fog lights to match my HID's and they lasted about a month. I'm not sure if these will be more of the same. I need new ones though. I've been fog-less for too long.

I have a pair of inverted amber LEDs and they don't work in the side marker for some reason... plus they are very dim. You can't really tell from my pics because I didn't take a proper side shot, but the side markers are really bright. Same brightness as the parking lights.
