Anyway, the Burnout lip fits over the existing lower black lip. Said black lip is NOT a part of any Mazda appearance package. It's stock on all RX-8s.

 

Some sanding required on those tips for a perfect fit.

Just to clarify, I didn't use the indentations but rather chose my own holes where I though they'd fit best through the wheel arch sheet metal or inner bumper liner.

 

Finally. Done. Now THIS is what I wanted from the start!

How were your sides attached? Of course, I understand the ends will be screwed into the car but how was the middle attached? I test fitted the kit last week and there seemed to be some twist in the drivers side, side. There is a lip where the top rolls over across the top of the sides which I don't understand why it's there. Any insight w.r.t that ?

Mine have three screws at the leading edges, and two at the trailing edges. The flange is so you can use double-sided tape to attach the side skirts to the car under the doors. You don't have to do that, but it also helps to keep the fiberglass from rubbing through your paint.

You'll also need to get about 6 feet of 3/8ths inch rubber or black vinyl hose. Split the hose lengthwise into a "C" shape and use it to line the upper edges of the front lip, where it meets the body, and the front and rear edges of each side skirt where they meet the body. This helps you obtain a tight fit without damaging the paint. PM me with a private email and I'll send some detailed photos.

I'm guessing the front lip just attaches to the existing front end? I don't have the Aero dam just that black trim, so need to remove the bumper right?

 

I unfortunately learned this the hard way but, no, you do not need to remove the bumper. I actually placed my lip of ver the oem app. front lip and it fits perfectly. Almost as if it snaps into place.

Photo, will you post them for all to see? I know I'm not the only one that will/ would benefit from your "maiden voyage". Thank you.

Looks real good. I'm assuming that the 3/8 tubing is what you can see along the edges? Will two sided 3M tape provide the same barrier that the 3/8 tubing will? Can't to get these in the mail

 

I was trying to save on the double-sided tape on the rear corners. Those things are HARD to pull off it you use tape down the entire edge!

I really want to secure the kit on there nice and tight, don't see pulling it off any time soon. So it's OK to use tape down the whole edge instead of the tubing? In the end it's up to what the body shop thinks they can do best.

 

The rear corners are set up to use tape only. The sides are set up to use tape under the doors, and tubing at the edge. Tubing is NOT used to hold the kit to the car, only to keep the kit from chewing through your paint. Leave it off at your own risk!

 

I see, that's why it's only visible at the edges. OK, tubing it is for the edges and front as well. I'm learning as I go. I'm also thinking of possibly painting the black unpainted potion of the rear bumper to match the rest of the car. I've seen a few pics of it done and it looks pretty good. It all depends how much the shop will charge for that. Have you seen any in person? Picture is one thing but in person is better. Any thoughts?

 

It's a pebbly-grained urethane plastic panel. I think it would look like crap painted, but that's just my opinion. I'd think you'd need to completely sand it smooth in order to paint it.

 

Believe me it would be sanded smooth before painting.

I got my first quote from a local body shop and it was $2500+. The holes left by my appearance package need to be filled in the trunk area as well as where the side aero flares were. In addition, the cost includes all fitting and painting of the kit and the evo-r.net lip spoiler. Seems a bit high to me. Any opinions? I have a couple more shops to visit so I'm hoping for better news.

As for my initial test fitting of the sides, I noticed that mine don't go straight down from the car body like yours do. My sides tend to angle inward toward the underneath of the car. This happens when the front and rear parts of the sides are flush to the body. It could be the angle that I'm at but initially the sides are looking like a potential problem. Any insight?

why do you need to fill the holes from the appearance package sides?

 

The body shop said that there is the potential for rust if they were not filled in.?.?
