First my apologies if this is a stupid question, but I am not too electronically savvy, at least when it comes to programming things.
But would it be possible with this to make the oil pressure gauge in the OEM cluster show actual readings? Or is this controlled in the cluster itself and the PCM has absolutely nothing to do with it?

The oil sensor that is located in the oil pan is merely a level sensor.
(don`t know about the S2)
But the gauge doesn`t indicate pressure either, I don't recall seeing a psi or kpa unit of measure on the gauge, just a L and a H.
Check again, I think that you`ve mistakenly implied that it`s indicating pressure when in fact it`s really just worthless.

On the S1 there is no oil pressure sensor.

If there's no pressure sensor on the S1, there is pretty much no sense to my question, I was just wondering if you could make it behave like a normal pressure gauge as the old Miatas have. Would have been cool, though...
I'm pretty sure Mazda was afraid to show the masses the pressure range of the 8. On the S1 that gauge would be going from 13psi at idle to 60+ at max load. Also, I don't recall even seeing the idiot gauge on the S2. Pretty sure it was dropped.
The level sensor in the pan is seperate.....

Sorry...but there is an oil pressure sensor...it is just below the oil filter on the drivers side of the engine. It is likely just a pressure activated switch rather than a linear sensor...but it does give you a go/no go reading of the pressure...

Sorry about the hijack Brett
Yet to see it can do anything more on an S2 than access the PCM and maybe log. Let's see the maps and such if you can.

...just seems like uou connect a normal tactrix 2.0 and tune. But i havent read all 6 pages so someone may already know...but did you know theres also a program that gives you full runtime as well. Worked with my eclipse swap may work for this.

ECU Flash won't read/write the map. Nor can it read any sensors. In other words, it doesn't work, nor does it have anything that can be used.

Every OBD2 programmer looks the same. By your logic anyone could be modified to work. The rom is just a hex file like it is for every ECU, any hex editor can change it. The hard part is actually accessing the ECU and then the definitions for the actual maps. Tactrix has shown no interest in any Mazda support.

Lame. Cause this would be free tuning no need for stand alones or the cobb if this was easily access When i was in the 3g forums thats how they tuned therr car by getting a tactrix cable for the eclipse and tune away.
I doubt you any more want to work your *** off for free any more than anyone else does. I still say that without too much effort any competent hex artist can get to the same level as Cobb by using their work. Have yet to see anyone exceed it yet ...
so were you going to go back in all the threads where you gave props to MazdaEdit and make sure they all know that $1300 only gets you 100 flashes on an RX8?
It's a significant issue because anyone with tuning experience recognizes that a 100 flash limit is not even remotely acceptable regardless of price.

Two days I've known about it - how does that compare with other issues people discover about vendors around here ?
Plus - I did disclose it in my turbo thread . Jeeze man ... get over yourself !

I have no intention of purchasing it without more proof, my concern is for other people who might drop the dough and end up hung out. If I'm hung up on anything it's over not wanting anyone else to experience the $1000 I dropped on the Hymee ProTuner and got totally hosed on because I listened to people talking it up that had no idea what they were promoting ....
