dyno is probably empty because you haven't highlighted the part of the part of the log you want in your dyno . It needs to be .................................... pink . Make sense ?

I was selecting as you describe (I think?) but dyno tab is empty. But I have no doubt I could very well be missing the obvious

Could be the time format - mine shows up as seconds like this 1,000 , 2,000 etc etc

I tried all 3 import settings for the time, same result. I'll wait until I get the license key, maybe it's just a restriction of the trial version. Thanks for your advice!

Curious tho, does yours complain about the time with a funky character?

There have been csv files that wouldn't load for some reason but have not seen that exact message before .

Just an quick note, got my license key and the dyno chart now works. Seems that was a restriction on the trial. But apparently I need to work on the import. Either that or my machine is a beast

hmmm - apart from the obvious ... that upswing at the end is usually indicative of some kind of anomaly with the log .

You could send me the same csv and see what happens on my version if you like .....

Ya, it doesn't like that particular log for some reason, tho VD has no problem with it, so not sure yet what's up. I am having better results with other logs.

Sorry for being the noob but what are the benefits for this for me with a stock 4-port? I've read this entire discussion plus many, many pages of the Accessport and MazdaManiac's discussions. I've got a lil' bit of an idea but what is this going to benefit me?

Thanks for the help.

Well, it lets you do this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_tuning
If you modify the car, then tuning helps to realize more of the benefits of the modifications. If the car is stock, then mazda already did a pretty good job from the factory, but there are still valid changes that can be made to trade one benefit against another (e.g. inject more oil to help engine life, but need to check and fill the oil more often)

Thanks! I understand what engine tuning is but know next to nothing about the 'technical' details...

I've seen others list that they could change shift points (i'm 4-port AT), rev limiter and the like. Any other benefits like this that would make this beneficial, I'm also potentially interested in adding a midpipe and maybe a cat-back later if it's worth the money for the gain...

I've just read from people that are completely stock that they are ecstatic with the Accessport and wondering if I'd be the same with the Mazdaedit/ Openport.

First lets be honest, you're driving a 4port AT. Unless you go SC/TC or Nitrous you're not getting anything.
So, No it's not worth it.
It's not worth it to even buy a midpipe and a cat back unless you are looking only for sound and esthetics.
It's really not worth it to spend the money on the Mazdaedit just for those mods IMO or even a Cobb AP.

Don't let those boners with a Cobb AP running naturally aspirated get you going.
At best all they got was 10-15 hp improvement TOPS absolutely tops and that's if they had it custom tuned! Without a tune I bet they got zip, zero, nadda, gonedee, butt-kiss.
What's really cool about the Cobb is all the data you can collect and the little things you can tweak using Access Tuner Race like fan temps, OMP table, idle rpm but those aren't necessarily "performance mods" or gains in HP/TQ.
(would be same with Mazdaedit)

The Cobb and MazdaEdit are really just a means to an end for the rotor heads with highly modified engines.

Any other purposes would only be to gather data or just learn about tuning, you're not really going to gain much performance NA.

Wait, so on my slightly modified engine, there's no point me tuning?

taking it too literal

What is slightly modified? What is it you have done?
If it's just exhaust ... then yes I would say no point.

They are both tools. How you use them is entirely up to you.

A 10mm socket isn't a performance mod, but it can help you replace those shot coils and get back power...

Same concept, different application.

Yes I agree.
But a 10mm wrench is a lot cheaper than a Cobb AP or MazdaEdit.

The dude asked if it was worth it?

No it's not worth it unless if you look at it from a pure performance stance.
Sure if your a gear head and like all the numbers and data it's awesome.

Honestly what's the break point of modifications or cost that justifies the need to have a Cobb AP or MazdaEdit to perform tuning from a strictly performance point of view.

I get slidn8 and you RIWWP that we want data mmmm data but most ppl just want to hit the go peddle

The cost of MazdaEdit or an AP is easily justifiable, even without a single performance increase. The increased OMP rates and lower fan trigger temps alone is worth it. Add that you can block emission CELs and yeah, it is totally worth it even without a re-tune.

In your opinion which one is a better bet for someone who just wants to increase OMP rates and block a emission CEL? Not looking to tune.

@RIWWP

Ok I'll give you those.
But again those items are more for the gear head people IMO.
And that's not a bad thing I'm just saying in the context that I read that persons question was more about performance gains.
Yes if they want to block a cel then ok
Yes if they want to lower fan temps ok however this if very subjective depending on climate.
Yes increased OMP is good.

The cost of these items being justified is also subjective.
What's worth it to you or I is entirely different to someone else.

In the case of the AP you need to have ATR to make such adjustments which means you need to understand how to do them yourself you have someone to do it for you. As easy as they are (with the exception of the OMP tables which are a bit different).

I've not used MazdaEdit but I gather from what I've read it's pretty much the same deal, you need to make a custom map.

The person I responded to, if they understood these things in the first place, wouldn't have even asked the question.
So in responding to a person that is strictly looking for performance gains with no or minimal knowledge of what is going on, it's not worth it.

Following your logic every RX8 should ship with a Cobb AP with ATR or MazdaEdit.
Hey wait that does sound like a good idea!

Listen I love my AP but I would not recommend it to just anyone unless they have a specific requirement.

RIWWP I do have a question that I think you could answer:
Would not the OMP rates have been increased if the owner had the latest flash from Mazda?

Last thing
Sorry Brettus I've (we've) completely derailed you MazdaEdit thread.

Depends if you have a SI or SII

If you have a SI then the Cobb AP is they way to go IMO

If you have a SII then you only have the MazdaEdit option

It's that simple

The latest Mazda flash has higher OMP rates than the first flash. I don't know what rates those are specifically. The standard practice for a custom flash is to increase them even higher. I was burning a quart every ~800 miles on my AP flash, so it's close to double what Mazda's lastest flash was, which was 1 quart about every 1,500 miles.

Mazdaedit is going to expose a couple tables on a 4 port you won't get with an AP.... namely access to all the idle tables so you can actually change it, and the speed limiter.
