I don't see how removing these little plastic things out of the box will do anything. It's not like you have a lot of room at the top or bottom of the air bell. Most every car I've seen that had a noise baffling device on it had it on the pipe leading to the airbox and on the pipe after the box. The MT has both... The screens are the only thing IMO (unproven) that block or hamper air flow.

Well removing the walls might not do anything. Some people get results, some dont. but removing one of the screens yeilds a 1-2 hp increase

I noticed no sound difference with mine. Just felt a bit more responsive and had a 25 ghp gain according to the scangauge (254 ghp was the highest I saw before the mod; after the mod I saw 281 on the way home). Not sure how much of the gain was due to the mod and how much was due to other factors, ie air temp, humidity, different tank of gas, etc.

The REAL point to this exercise is to consider how these mods to the factory intake are strikingly similar to the more popular intake boxes which cost a lot of money and the similar results.

I really wonder what kind of HP does the ScanGauge show... 281 HP (or even 254) can't be right, especially not by a 4-port engine

You got that right! He's got a messed up ScanGuage, isn't reading it right, or there is something major about his car we don't know about!

Is Gross horse power that much different than brake horse power?

Best mod = learn to drive. When I was bone stock I was whooping up on 8's with intakes and exhausts. This mod is worthless. Just my opinion.

Yes, there is a big difference. Gross horsepower is more of a theoretical capability of what an engine can produce. Basically the engine's HP produced without any drag at all, including interal drag of engine parts. Brake horsepower is the amount of horsepower that would be measured at the flywheel with all accessories(SAE), so there is a big difference in HP. Shaft HP would be after the transmission and Wheel HP of course measured at the wheels.

Interesting thing I've noticed. Since I've had this done, my "fuel cutoff" feature that the scangauge displays doesn't kick in. This is when the computer cuts off fuel to the engine when you are coasting with the car in gear, when you let off the gas at a high enough rpm. It shows up as 9999 mpg and 0 HP on the scangauge (as explained to me by the scangauge people). Any thoughts on why this cutoff might not be happening with the intake stuff removed?

Have you been running the car with your front defroster on? I'm in the Chicago area and I know my windshield has been fogging up without it on the past few days. If so, maybe it's still providing a small amount of fuel because the A/C compressor is running.

For those who are having idle problems after removing the screens, please read my original post located in the first page.

I thought someone mentioned not bothering resetting it elsewhere in the thread? Ah well, when I get my K&N I'll take it out a screen again. Don't want to run the risk of tearing up the air horn too much

Basically, the ECU adapted to how the airbox intakes less air with the walls and when it's removed, it takes in more air. The car's not use to it so what you do is reset it, it'll learn to take in more air and smooth out everything.

The only thing I would do is buy the REVi Air Duct, not the Intake Box but that's just me.
