I played with the factory intake on Brillo's car a couple of years ago. We removed screens, walls, and even the VFAD. Tried them in various configurations. We never noticed any power difference. It's not saying there wasn't one. There may have been. Maybe not. We couldn't tell though. Keep in mind Speedsource Racing runs the factory intake and paper filter on the track in it's stock configuration. That might tell you something.

RG, that's interesting. However, to clarify, Speedsource Racing runs the factory box with the walls and mesh screens in place?

I did no such thing. Remember, I have two intake boxes. Soon, there is to be a third.

I just removed the walls and threw in the K&N filter. I'm going to head over to lunch now and see how it sounds...

Back from my drive with removed airbox walls and K&N filter replacement. Can't tell any difference in sound or power. However, the idle is exact same and no problems, so can't complain!

It'll be a bit louder and in my opinion, feels a bit more responsive. I have yet to take a video of it, I'll do it tonight during the Super Autobacs meet

Threadjack

You need SUPER. It will transcode damn near any video format into almost any other video format. I assume your camera made a .3GP file?

Did i mention it's totally free?

Thumbs up Lovin' this mod!!

hey thanks for putting this up, i would've never known about it.

Did the fix today, breathes a little bit better. I wouldn't say it's significantly better though. It is a little bit louder also, and you could hear the intake breathing when you tap the gas.

I did remove the back screen, and left the front screen on. No problems with idle, but I did hear ticking noise during the first 5 minutes. I then drove it around town a bit to get a feel. I would say a slight increase in throttle response and a smoother feel to it. BTW, I do have a K & N drop-in filter. I'll be figuring out my MPG later on, and compare it to pre-mod MPG figures. I won't be able to calculate my tank this time cause I was being too rev happy with the new mod

Thanks again, it's definitely a nice CHEAP mod. hahaha you just saved me $300 lol.
