Walls out, screen AFTER MAF removed, K&N filter + Reset. No problems at all with idle. Not much of a change in sound... maybe a bit more "sucking". Rev's are smoother and faster though. The butt dyno says it feels better but i can't tell on power. Do this mod! Its free .

while i didnt notice an increase in power or sound i did get an extra 10miles to the tank so nothing HUGE but still a free mod that couldnt hurt-- do it!

(removed both baffles and both screens, dropped in k&n filter)

can this be done without removing the box from the engine bay? It looks like a matter of unscrewing the screw to remove the two plastic walls.

Yes, at least the removing the baffles part. I had trouble getting my airbox out so I just opened it wide enough to get the baffles unscrewed and out. In the interest of full disclosure, I did manage to cut up the back of my hand for my trouble, so I think it's a lot safer (for your hands) to take out the airbox and then do the modification. If I could have figured out what I was doing wrong that kept the airbox from coming free, I'd have going that route. I'd wanted to take out one of the screens; but with the meagre opening I was able to achieve there was no way I was risking the car ingesting a screw or other metal part.

You just have to push the box back with a little more force. It will come up and allow you to remove the filter & the panels easier.

what's so hard with getting the air box out? I popped it out in like 2 seconds today literally. Just takes some man strength. Thanks for the mod though

The trick is to pull up the back of the airbox first to pull it out of the grommets underneath. Then push it back towards the throttle body.

Okay so Renesis and Cheterick and everyone else I appreciate the thread, lots of help for a broke college student tryin to finally mod SOMETHING on his 8. But can I PLEASE see a video (decent quality) of the way this mod sounds under a load?

I saw one on YouTube but the guy even admitted to it being done with his cell phone, so it's obvious the deep horrid sound wasnt wat it really sounds like. Please and Thanks, guys.

are you talking about the video of the dude taking out the bottom half of the intake box?
if so, this isn't the same "mod"

taking out the baffles/screens will have VERY little sound difference.

.... So I just dewalled my intake box and took it for a spin.... not really much difference. Im starting to think it is just in our heads.. I mean to me, my car sounds nice at high revs anyway, but tomorrow Im gonna try removing the VFAD I guess, cuz I just want it louder at take off... Any other suggestions?

removing vfad will definitely make it louder under heavy throttle.

So...has anyone done a before and after on the actual airflow with this mod?

The Racingbeat airbox had an 8%-10% increase in airflow in the logging I did relative to stock.

So did anyone with a Cobb AP record before and after mass airflow readings to see if this does anything besides sound better?

I was cleaning my K&N and decided to remove the walls. I have not noticed a difference in sound or power.
