Just pulled the 7 plugs I had in there





carbon fouled.

Yup, looks like the dyno doesn't lie. The RX7 plugs are too cold for use in a N-A Renesis. Plugs had around 800 miles on them.

This makes sense because I was getting backfire at high RPMs when using premium gas with these plugs, the dyno made more power as the car got hotter, and by just looking at the rx7 plugs you can see they have more exposed metal and a less exposed center cone, meaning they will transfer more heat to the water jacket and the central part of the plug will be shielded from heating up, ie. making them 'colder'.

I suggest the use of rx7 style plugs in one heat range hotter if you intend to use them for N-A purposes.

 

woah!! so how long are the OEM plugs supposed to last? i've got 5.5K on my '06 NA RX8.

 

tough to say, not many people have been using the same plugs long enough, due to replacement from recalls and flooding.

depends on how you drive really, driving aggressively they should last upwards of 20K im guessing. If you hadly ever redline it they look like they could build up a bunch of ash.

My stocks had less than 1000 miles on them. I would just reuse them, but one of my trailings got a ton of corrosion on it from a spark plug boot that fell off, and for some reason on the other trailing the electode looked like the tip got chipped off of it. You can sort of see it in the pics on my other plugs thread looks all pointy like it got cut diagonally. My leadings are great though, posterchildren of good plugs.

Honestly, Im probably going to start replacing mine every 15K. If you have a 13/16 magnetic sparkplug socket, a 12" extension, a jack and a jackstand you can change all them out in less than 25 minutes.

I havent been able to schedule another dyno on the same dyno, the shop is very booked and they fail to return my phone calls.

I pulled the negative battery cable a few times and let it set overnight. This seems to have helped overall response. I also ran an extra 4 gauge ground cable from the location next to the oil filter where the coils are grounded to chassis and this also seems to have helped performance.

Overall I am torn, the dyno numbers are inconsistant. But it feels so fast now. It feels amazing to drive. I dont know if it was the grounding cable helping out some overloaded coils, or just me reseting the computer a few times by pulling the battery cable.

But it feels great now, I would have to recommend it.

Good to hear it sounds like its working out. Hopefully you get into that dyno soon. When I get back to Omaha, we'll have to get together again.. Going to be ordering some stuff soon.

 

what mods do you have?

 

check the 19 rx8 dyno thread. its pretty interesting since me and keith were the ones with the most mods yet he dyno'd really low. Others that were almost stock dyno'd almost as much as i did. hahah

 

I have a question for all you with experience in tuning and so forth. If the RB flash is safe, reliable and adds some additional pony's why didn't Mazda do this from the beginning? Same thing goes with the Accesport, why can't Mazda who knows the ECU inside and out come out with a similar product for the aftermarket. If the base maps are indeed that safe to run why didn't Mazda think of using those maps? I know nothing about tuning or what goes along with it, so I'm just confused why Mazda doesn't offer this

 

I'd agree 110%. What's up with that scenario for everyone? We should all have what RB can get from the engine.

 

The factory stock tune, is what was used to pass emissions with stock parts. The RB flashes are aftermarket for us junkies.

 

Emissions, variability between engines, and warranty/reliability concerns...me thinks...

First off I am fairly new but from what I can tell you just joined in Jan. If you were to check out both threads you would see that different people post on each except for a few. I wanted to to ensure both groups had a chance to answer. Does that answer your question?

I guess I have some really good news for everyone that has been following this thread. I am currently doing a battery relocation to the washer bottle position with the odyssey PC680. Anyways, while my car is out until my 0 gauge cables arrive I decided to clean my REVi with the K&N cleaning kit.

So I took it apart, and low and behold, the inner bell curve was completely unattached to the filter, it was flopping around inside the filter itself. I dont know if this can explain the crappy dynos but I certainly hope it does.

Anyways, the 0 gauge cables arrive on friday and I can finish wiring it up.

But the dynos are going to be skewed now since I just got my enkei rpfs. I didn't really like the pics online, but bought them because they are 18x9.5 and ~17 lbs each. I just had my rt615s from my stock tires transfered over. Needless to say, 245 is the lower limit for that rim and it definetly shows. I'll post some in progress pics of the battery relocation and some of the new rims on the car after friday. The washer bottle weighs ~4 lbs full of fluid, not the 14 lbs thats listed in the tech section.

Powder coating is a bit thin on it though, I already chipped it a bit.

I used teflon bolts from home depot for weight savings, they are more than tough enough to do the job and weigh nothing in comparison to their metal counterparts.

 

Nice, my dash is going to be all lit up when I turn on my car. Its going to be CEL, low washer fluid, and TPMS warning.
