yeah, but the point is that we are not seeing minimal gain, we are seeing negative gain.

From 203hp with the mazda N post recall flash,

To 194hp with the RB flash.

To 189hp with the rx7 plugs, de-cored cat, tires, wires and coils.

All things being equal I already ordered stock plugs, and am going to try this one more time, because I think that rx7 plugs, which are intended for turbo, run too cold due to a different design utilizing the multi ground surface as opposed to a recessed 'fine wire' OEM style.

Right now I think that if one wants to use rx7 style plugs they should go 1-2 steps hotter if they are N/A

I was told by Kyle at Mazdatrix that the ECU "learns" the dyno, in short term memory. That's why consecutive runs on a dyno tend to show an increase in power with each run, up to a point. He said a bone stock RX-8 will gain 8-10 horsepower, as it adjusts to what the dyno requires (different than stock driving). If you're someone who constantly thrashes the car, you might start with a higher stock HP number. If you drive gently, you'll probably start lower and pick up more power.

This is why Mazdatrix doesn't really recommend any of the airbox/air filter replacements. They're using/testing a K&N Typhonn right now, but state it made only about 2 horsepower over stock. They did like the Racing Beat ram-air design as it provides more flow at speed, but doesn't show a thing extra on the dyno.

Static, if you think the heat range has to do with the face of the plugs, wait until you get the "upgraded" stock plugs. The look a lot more like the RX-7 plugs these days.

Regarding dyno runs, I wonder if the Mustang Dyno were used (or other eddy-current dynos) and had the RX-8 software in it that replicated the aero drag of the car at speed as well as weight of the car, would that lead to more accurate runs and tuning? Maybe Kyle at Mazdatrix can answer that one, too.

If weight does have something to do with it, that last dyno that was posted shows a very heavy 8. I thought they were more in the 3000lbs range.

I'll call them and ask them, but in all my dynos this weight number has been the same.

I don't have any more numbers yet. But I have put 2 tanks of 87 octane 'regular' gas through it and have not experienced any negative side effects such as detonation or mild pinging at high rpms.

It may just be my mind playing tricks on me, but it feels faster when using the 87 octane.

To me this is very good news. I made my top hp of 203 on the same dyno using 87 octane gas. That and its cheaper.

I ordered new iridium rx8 plugs and they should be here on Friday.

I want to try and get one more dyno.

I was looking at the Racing Beat website and it said that the flashes are only intended for cars with bolt ons such as intake, exhuast, and things like that. Pulleys wouldnt matter would it.

Yes, pulleys are fine. What RB is saying is that the re-flash does not support forced induction as there is no boost sensor. They also caution that the re-flash does not work with nitrous but that is incorrect. The RB re-flash will not work with "dry" systems but it works very well with "wet" nitrous systems, such as the Zex #82021 system. I still caution to stay in the 50-55 h.p. range with the nitrous, though.

imrtommy reported that after he got the RB flash, it actually improved the effectiveness of the nitrous. He was very specific in his descriptions to me so I am confident in his recollections. Others who have followed in these tracks are equally impressed with the RB flash and nitrous use. Since RB doesn't alter the ignition curve the 55 shot will still work. Further, since the RB flash optimizes the performance of the Renesis it would tend to make any nitrous system seem to work better. Re: the other thread and putting together a small accessories kit, I am currently focusing on that clutch pedal bracket this and next week.

i have to say i was impressed at the rb reflash...........i noticed quite a bit more response to the 8........theres no gaps in the acceleration up to redline, like i noticed with just bolt ons......the tune actually makes it run better, although for a full day my car couldnt hold an idle very well at all......
