Possible issues from well known vendor's fuel pump upgrade. Mazsport
Installed the OEM pump a few minutes ago.
The gas tank is immaculate. It's so clean you can't even see the fuel. The tank itself has a yellow tint to it, but it's a 4 year old vehicle and the gas tank has never been cleaned out. So to me, it's as spotless as it can possibly be.
I see zero evidence that premix causing any gunk or buildup in the tank. I've been premixing since the new engine rebuild, so there's several thousand miles with 6 oz of premix going through per fillup.
The fuel filter itself is a dark color, but looking at it, there appears to be nothing that is clogging the filter in any way.
The issue appears to be with the pump design or the pump itself. The guy who did the install for me thinks the pump looks like the stock RX-7 third gen pump.
edit: Just to reiterate, 3 weeks after the upgrade pump was installed, I had fuel starvation on the dyno. Scott said it was premix, so the filter was changed and I stopped premixing. I've had several incidents since then with starvation that I thought might be due to being low on gas, but the car had 1/4 or 1/3 full on the gauge, and the fillups showed that the tank was not anywhere near empty. Eventually I went back to premix, the car acted exactly the same as before. It wasn't till last weekend that it got so bad that I had to stop every 40 miles or so to let it "cool down" before I could drive again, as any throttle input would cause the vehicle to jerk around violently. AFR readings showed lean condition during these situations. I tried to refrain from driving the vehicle last week till the pump was replaced, but I had to drive it to work on Thursday. On the drive home (I live 20 miles from my office) the vehicle was getting fuel starvation again, so it happened within 15 mile drive ... I basically had to coast under light throttle to make it back home.
The filter we see below, is well over a year old, and flows fuel through it just fine.
Based on this, I think it's safe to say that Idemitsu and FP+ premix doesn't cause weird clogging, and I will continue to premix with this combo for the foreseeable future. BTW, for anyone not familiar with these fluids, both of them are crystal clear and transparent. They are not the typical dark 2 cycle oil color.
Scott, do you want me to mail the pump in? Can I get a partial refund? A replacement?

Gas itself will tint the filter. The picture shows you can see right through the filter. Look at the opening to see how the fibers are dark, but there is nothing in the holes. I can take more photos if you need, the dark color is from the fibers of the filter itself. The filter is still wet with gas in the photo.
I can pour gas through it without any issue. There's no clog.

^ that looks fine to me Jason
however, your fuel tank
my 2005 never had that wierd yellow color thing, it looks like your petrol is real murky @.@
and yes, the mazsport does look like an rx7 fuel pump
but then again......their tranny also looks..........oh nvm

the fuel is clear. When I looked in, I couldn't tell how high the fuel was in the container because it was so clean. The colors might be off because it's a crappy camera and the colors are off when I use the flash. But the plastic wasn't a bright white.
Tomorrow I can cut open the filter and snap more photos.

everything looks fine Jason
albeit, I forgot to ask Jason
have you tried running an open-pump-cabin?
you take out the fuel pump shield and take off that seat
then angle the fuel feed line upwards
when I did that, my fuel pressure was normal and everything worked fine after
try it, I swear, I think the pump design is flawed in someway..........

I'm not going to comment on it, but the mechanic who worked on it liked some of the design, but didn't like some of it too. He didn't think the pump is adequate, but liked the fittings and stuff that was on it.
My curiosity got the better of me. I just cut up the filter and took pics. 5 pics added in the first post on this thread.
Filter still looks dark, but once I got some closeups, you can see it's not the cause of the problem.

has anyone else had any similar problems/complaints?
too bad you didn't install the gauge first, it would have revealed everything
many shops have their own ideas and philosophies, there's always more than one way to skin a cat, so IF the pump was a factory defect or such it's just the way of the world

Interesting...I just had mine pump out to do some fab work to add another pump.
My tank was snow white inside...and no sediment or anything
I will stand by my theory that you southern guys get crap in your supply tanks that gets pumped into your fuel tank...

My fuel filter looks exactly like that. I pour water on it and it flows fine I think.
so its my pump thats giving up. not the filter clogging (I think)
and mine is OEM. replaced it with another OEM about one thousand miles ago.

Fuel looks fine, premix looks fine, everything looks fine. I saw nothing that remotely indicated sediment.

see what you guys are missing is what team is saying... if jason was to have installed the gague first it would have indicated whether or not the problem was the pump. Now if you change it you could effectively alter something unknown...

It's COPPER...semi soft at that
