isn't the spacer for lash adjustment? makes the gears connect evenly across the tooth face.

This thread came to mind when I read the new C&D. Could this be a 'factory' answer to get a RX-8 performance difffernetial? Anyone have more info?
--------

C&D has a blip on the Mazdaspeed 6 in the 1/06 issue and said it's US intro was delayed while "US product planners decided to hasten its 1/4mile times w/ the lower gear ratios intented for the European version." The answer was "dropping the 5th & 6th gear ratios plus the final drive..." and this was done "...to the reinforced Mazda RX-8 limited slip rear differential."

But the question though...what IS the MS6 rear drive ratio? And will it just be something we could purchase and drop in?

Ummmm....

they were probably referring to the OE RX-8 differential, it seems to be quite a bit more rugged than the transmission

Huh? The final drive ear on the MS6 is 3.350 or 3.941 NOT.

therm8, plain CS says there's a single gear ratio for the rear end. Whatever it is, if it's a lower gear than the current 8 is part of the question. Does anyone know the answer as I've looked everywhere and I can't find that detail a spec. I don't want the overall geardown, just the rear end gear ratio.

Will the speedometer still be accurate with this mod?

Also, can Fab 8 or whoever else has this mod post a video or time slip for us?

I am curious to see how much faster you get through the gears.

Sorry, there's no quarter mile track (heck, there's no track at all) where I stay!

Hey...I'm not picky. Even a little video of the tachometer/speedometer while you're shifting would be great.

Awesome - good luck and keep the gears clean of debris - you need to be very careful here.

Some extra details before I install this Sunday.

Paul.
This is in addition to the 4.10 they are offering in the swap. The only other 3.9's that are available are these described in Felix's Mazda Gear Interchange Chart:

Vehicle, Years, Ratio, Notes
RX-2, '71-4, 3.900
RX-7 12A, '79-'85, 3.909, & 6-speed Miata
RX-7 12A, '84, 3.933, part year
B-xx00 Pickup, '87-8, 4.444, 4WD M/T

I doubt the 3.9 is from the RX-2, and the 4.444 uses the exact same pumpkin as the Kia 4.778 4WD M/T that the S2000 guys are using - on the S2000 blogs the front differential in the Kia is in fact the 1st gen RX-7 pumpkin. Therefore these are all short pinion shafts from the 1st gen RX-7 and the 4.778 should hypothetically fit.

But still, nobody knows, until this Sunday

PS I frigging drive way too fast in the RX8 on the highway, this will possible restrain my lead foot because of the increased HW mileage, forcing me by to drive slower

Maybe your top end will be down, but I'm sure you will have more fun getting there.
