Just spoke with Fountainhead Cryogenic Processing, Patricia said Mr. DeFelice just treated my gearset and will be shipping them this Friday. $55.00 treatment at $5/lbs, $7.50 shipping there, $7.50 return shipping, total . I have the front bearing race, rear bearing race, side seals, front seal, 3 spacers, and locknut that I got from John at onlinemazdaparts for $93.27. If I need any shims he has them and can shipped them pronto, real nice guy, very helpful.

So, *EDIT*

$295 Kia gears
$ 25 kia shipping
$ 55 cryo
$ 15 cryo shipping
$ 94 parts
$ 90 speedohealer (like the yellowbox, adjust speedometer and odometer)
$ 15 gear oil
------------------------
$589 total

Hope this all works, otherwise I'll order the FEED 4.77 gear from fujita-eng, the YEN is weak now, so the price is more reasonable. I'll sell the 4.778 on the S2000 forum and recover my cost, or maybe, get a S2000 this spring !

*EDIT* looks like the S2000 guys are on to us, eyeing our 4.44 for a good price.

FEED'S 4.778 costs about $600 not including shipping. Fab 8 doesn't seem to mention much about it so you're our only hope for now Slick

I think with a lighten flywheel, the Feed's final drive and the Pettits blower, I think I'll be happy with those mods haha.

S2000 owner here. Yeah I have the 4.44s from Mazda and they fit fine. They are the same gears the J's racing sells for $1000. The Kia gears are also made by Mazda and owners have been putting those in too.

S2KI QUOTE (rai @ Jan 19 2006, 01:50 PM)
The other thread talks about going to 4.1 gears to improve gas mileage.
S2KI QUOTE (Station @ Jan 19 2006 02:10 PM)
It would be a waste of time. When I went from 4.10 to 4.44, my mileage stayed identically the same. Xviper, who also has the 4.44, can vouch for this.

BTW...I have driven the RX-8. Not sure if the other people bashing it actually have. It's an outstanding car, and in terms of "feel" it's the closest car out there to the S.

I could give a **** about killing an S2000 at a stoplight, or any car for that matter. Last I checked, majority of the S2000 owners down here don't drive around trying to pick fights with other cars anyway. (Then again they probably don't post on that forum either.)

If the RX-8 can potentially put down equivalent numbers to a stock S2000's performance by combining this mod with a few other minor ones, then that's great, but I really don't care.

My interest in this mod is faster pick up when coming out of a turn, and more thrills going WOT. Also, it would be nice to be able to change into a faster moving lane (when you're stuck in one going 2 mph) without having to worry as much about getting rammed...thanks to the long trip up the tachometer that is necessary to get power out of this engine. This final drive won't eliminate that problem, but any help in that department is nice, especially at this price.

Ok, here's an update after driving around with the FEED 4.77 gear for a couple of months... no difference in my mileage. I am still averaging 215 - 230 miles per tank - mostly city driving.

No chance to run against another 8 so far, so don't know how much faster it is...but it sure feels faster from a butt dyno perspective.

Other than Feed's final drive for about a grand what happen to the 296 dollars? So you guys think if I go to a KIA dealership they'd sell it for cheap. Wait where is a KIA dealership anyway. I checked mazdaparts I didn't see any final drive.

The S2000 guys are putting in the stock RX-8 4.444 and the Sportage 4.778. You can order it from www.kiaparts.com Part# MM057-27-110 for $295.62+s/h
Read the first post in the thread, tells you what, where to order the 4.778. The absolute best price I found was at www.kiaparts.com, took a few days. Unless you have a massive hook-up or connection with KIA, I don't think you can get this for less than $295. You can try a junkyard or u-pull-it, but the prices are higher since the entire pumpkin and gears will be sold as a set.

I will be installing shortly, HOWEVER nobody knows that this will work for sure. Be patient...

I just had the gear set cryogenically treated last Saturday, they are shipping the gearset today USPS. I might get them tomorrow since they are in York, PA and I am in Philadelphia, PA -- about 1.5 hours away. I have all the parts, speedohealer, service manual, the tools, press, engine stand, garage, experienced mechanic to help, etc-everything.

I can only install the gearset on the weekend since I am still a worker bee and weekend warrior. I will post an DIY with photos.
