4.778 Final Drive For $296
#228
I am just guessing here but I would be willing to bet that the 4.77 gear will cut between .25-.30s off of the 1/4 mile times, with no other changes to the car. Let me know if I am wrong when someone makes the swap, willya?

Stuck in a love triangle
The reason why I am interested in this is because it should speed up the somewhat lagged delivery time of the engine's power. Nothing too incredible but it should feel a little more enjoyable under WOT. I am only concerned that going through each gear won't feel as smooth as stock.

Hey Slick,
Hope you are felling better. Thanks for the comprehensive outline. Another quest. I have is do I need any news bearings or anythign else in the rear housing or do you just swap the ring and pinion and that is that??
I have the centre from Kia and some people were talking about spacers etc.??
The ring/pinion goes off next week to get cryoed so it will be in late next week if all goes well.
Your help on this one would be most appreciated.

My flu and bronchitis finally broke in the last few days. I couldn't move or do anything, very depressing...
Going back to work tomorrow and need a week to catchup at work, everything at the crib, and a wash-vacuum for my RX-8.
I plan on installing the ring and pinion the weekend after next. Hope it fits.
